Oh crud Mark, I did find an exact fitting cockpit form Aero Accesories. they are the ones that won Top Gun in team scale a few years ago with the fiber classics Mustang. He even has other parts like wheel well linners for both main and tail wheel and tail wheel inner gear door panels. Light lenses and swing down landing light and a CD with a how to photos. The cockpit kit is only $35.00 U.S. Go figure. The gentleman is very friendly and is willing to give advise on building the plane.
By the way, started on my Stang today. Got the holes open in the lower cowl cheeks and have started to mount the top cowl halve.
Still waiting on parts for the first, so I thought I might as well get started on mine. I can hear that big Merlin firing up right now . LOL
Has anyone come up with a way to hide all of the control linkages in the wing anfd stab that gives enough surface travel?
Also I think Zorolli has drop tanks for this aircraft for only $35.00. Will be getting a set of those too.
Gary

Tom,

Paul Haller speaks basic english so you can e-mail him to order one - I did. I'll PM you his address.

Gary,

Dino at Aero Accessories is a great guy. I didn't go for his cockpit kit as I was swayed by the near instant finished product at scale-specials.de !!! I'll probably order the other parts he sells though and was also going to order the Ziroli drop tanks.

Rgds,
Mark

Well, My new wing tube has just arrived and now I can get back to building(finishing) my bird. I received great help from Top Gun participant, and sales rep for Comp-Arf Ray Labonte. Its good to talk with some one who also builds scale war birds. If you have a question or are looking to buy, see Ray. Ray is also in the Hobby store business. Thanks again Ray!
As you may recall, when I opened the kit I found that the wing tube's outside diameter was to large to fit inside the wing tubes installed in the wings. I tried the tube from the second kit and it fit my wing panels, causing me to realize that the wrong tube had been shipped with the kit. So now I'm all smiles and ready to get digging again.

Hi Gary, Mark

Nice to see this thread move on. Mark, your site is great! About the spinner C-arf suggest 160 mm from Krumsheid. It's wrong one wich I saw first when I got it. It's actually the one with ordernumber 758(158mm).
I must confess also that mounting Robart 145-6 was a big mistake, they can't take the load(I've made an order for the replaceable alublocks from Sierra).
I've been into order one more C-arf, but I decided to test a swedishmade(1/4scale) allcomposite P- 51 witch I'm picking up next week. I will post pictures during buildingprocess in a new thread.

Best regards
Tobbe

No both Mustangs have been put on hold due to waiting for materials. the new tube, the sliding canopies rails, drop tanks, and new interrior kits. Ordered all the accessories from Dino and should be getting them soon. Been working on my T-28 ( on another thread). hope to get back to the Mustangs in the next couple of weeks. Had to wait about six months to get the engine mount for the T-28. Now its up and going again. This hobby sure teaches you patience. LOL

I like the tailwheel set up, are you using springs on the tail tiler arm?

How do you keep the cables from catching on the retract frame when is on the up position?

Thanks

The Seirra tail gear has a spring wire built in like some of the Robart nose gear. I have heat shrink tubing over the connection to the tiller arm so that it will pass smoothly along the side of the gear frame. If I were to use the robart tail wheel assembly, I would incorporate small springs to keep it centered when in the up position. I use this method with the Top flight ARF Mustang tail wheel. See photo. Also note the type of tail wheel I use. The square sided tire is scale looking and this type of tire will not roll under like the round sided tires . I used to have all kinds of tail wheel grief untill I started using the hard flat sided tires. guess thats why they used this type of tire on the full scale.

I uderstand the robart set up,

but how do you keep the cables from snagging , when the gear is up, and there is a lot of slack in the lines,

is this why you used the shrink tubing,

The reason for my question,is that a good friend of mine and myself have the same set up as you do Darryl's gear, he allready test flew his plane I just got mine two weeks ago!, but we noticed that as you set the plane right side up there is a good chance of the cables catching with the retract frame, we looked at the pictures you posted, and were wondering?

Thanks

Are you using the longer tiller arm? The arm Darrell first sent me was to short. I had the same concern. He then sent me one with longer arms and should not be a problem with the cable catching on the frame. I am still in the finishing stage of the aircraft (ie, waiting on parts) so I am assembling a second plane up to where I have this one. Are you installing drop tanks or a sliding canopy on yours? Did you find a scale size pilot? A true 1/4 scale pilot is to large for this plane. I wish they made a larger version of the 1/5th pilot I use in the Top flight models.
