I just got this engine new and was wondering,Ive read one dont need the check valve in it to work,is this right??Cuss i was looking and the way they say to hook them up u will need to take the line off the check valve side to fuel it..
Also do u think this engine will turn a 13-6 at around 9000-9400rpm??Remember,just asking!
Thank u

The check valve is a must! And yes you have to pull the line to fuel it. Typically you install 2 fuel dots into the system with T connections. The pressure line is the breather during fueling. Also you will need to relieve pressure after every flight so you won't stress and blow the tank.

You also need to instal a fuel filter between the check valve and the engine and another between the fuel tank and the fuel inlet on the engine. If you don't, one day. you'll be sorry.

Good luck,

Jim

What kind of fuel filter are you using W8YE? Most of the fuel filters I have seen will stop a June Bug, but they might have trouble stopping a lady bug. Most of them aren't worth the energy it takes to carry them and just represent one more failure point on the model.

I filter my fuel before it gets into the model, that way I don't have to worry about it afterwards.

Yes, the check valve is a must, otherwise there would be no pressure kept in the fuel tank for the regulator to regulate. That lump of stuff on the front of a YS engine is a regulator, not a pump.

We don't have june bugs here in the north like you guys do in Georgia. We have japanese Beetles by the millions. They are greenish but are smaller than the june bug. You were talking about the big ones out back around the fig tree weren't you?

There are filters on the market beside the 60 mesh cheap jobs from the mighty empire. There are some with an extremely fine filter medium inside. Read the fine print.

Also check valve don't just last forever anyway. It's best to have a spare especially if you are using the Foremost checkvalve.

Enjoy

Jim

Ok ,,I understand..So one must run a third line to let the presure off the tank so one can fuel it up with the 2 line way that I use??
I used the muffler for tank presure..Also while Iam asking,do u use fuel line claps?Oh yes,,I do use filters..Plus my fueler has a filter also..
And hello to u ED!!
Iam looking forward to this engine and will listen to advice..Also I do understand engines,at times!!
Thank u..
Thank u Deputydog for that,,Sounds great..
Still would like to know about props and expected RPMs,I have nitro so no problem there..Ive heard that this engine with a little nitro will standup and get with it!!What might u all run out there??
Again thanks.

Thomas, I think you're making this more complicated than it really is. When you are looking at the front of the engine the line on the right side of the crankshaft is the pressure line, not the muffler, the line on the left draws fuel from the tank and pumps it to the regulator and carb, fuel that is not needed by the carb is pumped back through the line on the right side which has the check valve in it, all this is as you are looking at the engine from the front. You only need two lines to the tank, put tee's in both, just make sure the one on the check valve line is between the check valve and the tank. You don't touch the blue line that goes from the regulator to the carb. As you are again looking at the front the left one goes to the clunk and right one to the vent in the tank. When you are fueling, fuel goes in the line on the left and air vent out the one on the right looking from the front. Sorry about the long answer.

I'll have to give filters another look. It's been a while since I bothered. Thanks for letting me know something better is out there.

Would you care to pass along a brand name and model number? TIA

Hi, Tom.

Ed, try the Jason filter from Central Hobbies. It's on their web site.

With the 13/6 APC you should get about 10.6 to 10.8k on 15 %. Slightly rich setting. 25 to 30% nitro will boost the rpm substantially and the engine will love it.
