some plug and mold pics(updated)
here is the plug covered with its first coat of resin, in which we mixed west systems 423 graphite for color. after plug was completed, for release we used about 10 coats of 3m car wax, followed by a coat of candle wax(experimenting). After this was buffed we sprayed our PVA.

here is the first coat setting up, we waited about 1 hour for this to kick, before we started laying glass, you can see how smooth it came out... hope it stays like this!!!!!!

will be a sport type plane, .40 size, just doing this one to kinda get back into the swing of things before I start on a F23 for twin turbine power. Also doing this plug to try a few different things, materials, steps, etc....

fuse with rough canopy and wings, wings will be removable via carbon dowel through fuse, should be a fun little plane. Also will experiment with stabilators on this one, for future planes.

some plug and mold pics(updated)
I am using west systems epoxy, pricey considering all the layers we have to do, but I have found it is the most consistent. By that I mean I have used poly before, and it seemed weather and humidity played a big part in curing times. West I think is pretty fool proof. F23 will more than likely be for RAM 750 power as I have 3 of em sittin on the shelf, ones for a T38 that I just started. Not sure of scale and size for 23 yet, plane is still on the drawing board.

My Pleasure!
Thanks!
Looks like you're doing a great job! If you don't mind a little advice, I'd just like to say... Don't change anything! You're doing it right.
Can't wait to see your F-23. I've always thought that plane was a beauty.
...Pretty soon you'll want to make molds for everything. That's the way it goes.
Nice work!

To be, or not to be...
I'll bet it will. When will you make your first parts in the molds?
If you make it light, (but strong) like any other plane, you shouldn't have any problems. I assume you've already done the math, as far as wing loading, etc.?

some plug and mold pics(updated)
first parts will hopefully be the beginning of next week. flipped it over this morning and pulled parting board. came off REAL easy, (a sigh of relief was heard). Hopefully tonight or tomorrow we will continue with glassing second side. finish by fri. let set over weekend... I have the numbers for wingloading somewhere.... It was awhile ago when this whole thing was figured out, a few minor changes have been made, nothing drastic, for all I know I probably glassed them in the plug... have wings, stabilators, vert fin, carbon gear enough for two fuses so far. One is for my "sanding partner" and one is for me. Gonna finish one and test fly before we lay up another fuse. if it flies, anyone interested in one?

flipped over
here is after the first side has totally cured and we flipped it over, pulled the parting board, and cleaned up the other side. I the next few pics, you will see some bumps on the fuse, its just water beading up fro us washing some dust off. The same thing will happen here as the first side, resin coat, 6-8 layers of glass, and 2 layers of mat. This was supposed to be done this weekend, but there are too many planes in the hangar that are unfinished soo.... you know the story. Shooting for next weekend for first pull of our fuse. Will keep you posted.
