Does anyone have a set of Carden 30% Extra 300 plans? I bought the aircraft used and needed the plans for some improvements.

I have the same plane, and if anyone could help both of us out, much would be appreciated. I would like to have plans to be able to create spare parts if there were to be an accident.

Hello, this seems to be a major issue, I too am in need of plans for this aircraft. Carden Extra 300s. I have been in contact with Dennis at Carden Aircraft and he has stated that the designer is aproximatley a 2 hour drive from his home and he only makes this drive once every month or so. He is sending me the blueprints in the next couple of weeks when he makes the drive. I can make some oversized copies of the plans when they arrive and send them off to you if still needed.
I have an immediate issue though if either one of you can help. I have gone in and rebuilt a crashed Carden Extra 300s, but am at a loss from the forward fuse sides. I do not know how they are built up where the wing recesses into the fuse. Can you take some pictures and post them or send me some. Trying to get this plane done for the Love air Big Bird Festival next month and this is the last portion of the repair.

JW,

Give me a day and I will send you some nice pictures of that area.

If you could send me a copy of the drawings when you get them that would be great. I am worried about being in the same boat you are. Will the plans detail out the TOC mod for this plane? If you can get that as well, that would be great.

Shoot me an email b_hargis@hotmail.removethisforspampurposes.com and we can work out the details.

On a unrelated note, mine has a brison 4.2 for power. Do you guys think that is enough for decent 3d with this 20+ lb plane?

Do either of you know where I can get a carbon fiber wing tube? I think it would reduce the weight some, Im not so sure though about the landing gear if there is a lot to gain there.

Again, shoot me an email JW. Send me an account to send the pictures to and let me know the file limit.

Oh yea, could either of you give me a recomendation for servos for the plane (what size, etc)

Mine currently has holes for the rudder servos to be in the tail, but either of you do a pull pull?

I need copies of the plans as well.
I want to remove my canopy and redo the top of the plane.
Plans would help a great deal

I have built and flown three of these airplanes and they are great.

Servos Ive always used JR 4721 ,2721, or 8411's. On my first one I had futaba 9202 and stripped them. As far as the Brison 4.2 its plenty witha 22x10 or 22x12 bolly or menz prop. I had one in mine it flew great, however I did put a brison 4.8 twin in my second and third and it was awesome.

As far as the fix goes for the wing you are probably going to need the plans, and I dont have them. There is a firewall that is flush with the cowl and that fromer is needed in order to fix it. I think its on the plan. Or maybe Dennis can send you one I think its F-1. what you do is from the rear of the wing root where the stringers on the side end with that little former to support it, you run stringers I think there are two from the rear former to the inside of F-1. Then you sheet it to match the wing root. This is a pre-cut part in his kit. You then pull the wing out and sheet the underneath of it in the wing root to seal it off. Dont getting the sheeting real tight as you wont be able to get the wing on and off. That side is real delicate on that airplane. Squeeze it too much and it cracks very easily. On my last on, I actually cut a foam core to go inside of those and it worked great. Very strong and barely any weight added. Good luck with the fix. Its a great airplane. Im getting ready to order my second 40% 330s and it will be my 7th Carden. Enjoy!!

Pete

@ Got Incon : I have sent you an email with some info. As soon as I receive the plans, i'll take them to the local kinkos and get them copied on their OCA large format copier. I am not sure what the TOC MOD for the plane is but I can get in contact with Carden and ask what it entails.
I am not familier with the Brison myself but there website states :Suitable for planes from 19-32 lbs depending on wing loading. So you should be OK.
I am fitting my Carden with a G-62 that I had on a 96" cap. That plane was running 24lbs wet and swung a 22-10 zinger prop. It did not have the power required for 3-D maneuvers but it did ok. That plane is gone now, due to the carburator coming loose on takeoff
I am fitting my 300s with the following servos,
Hitec HS-700BB Quarter scale for the rudder - setting up as pull pull of course with a bel crank. Great servo and reasonably priced!
Hitec HS-605BB Dual bearings for the elevators - qty 2
Hitec HS-605BB Dual bearings for the ailerons
and standard Hitec for the throttle

As far as the Carbon Spar goes. You can get in contact with Don's Hobbies out of Kansas.
(785) 827-3222 * 1819 S. Broadway, Salinas, KS 67401
I bought an aluminum spar and phenolic tube from him, very nice and helpful!

I am sure he carries them but let me inform you that they cost a pretty penny.

And if in the event you gain to much gravity on the plane during flight. It would be a great loss.
The weight of the aluminum spar won't reflect the planes weight that much anyhow at anything over 15 lbs unless you are really into the 3-D stuff so I have been told..

On the rudder servos. Are you sure it is not a servo for each elevator half? I only have two servo holes in my tail.......

@PJFaller Thanks for the tips. I actually have thought about the foam forming then sheeting, starting cutting one out and decided to wait till I can actually get some photos of the fuselage building before I finish them in foam. Last resort thing.

You can see in my photos up top that I have finished the fuselage less the wing formers, Their building was not up to my specks so I enhanced it a Tad for strength with the 1/8" Lite plywood side walls and engine mount.

@everyone else. When I get the plans, I'll copy them and send to who ever needs them, not sure how much a tube costs USPS but can't be that much.

Love to see some picts of completed Carden 300 30%'s planes as well on here.

jw637362, thanks for the offer.
I can send you my information when every you are ready.
My plane is a little battle worn but does fly great.
After the modifications, if I don't sell it, I want to put a 100cc engine in it and fly!

JW, thanks from the rest of us for taking the initiative to get the plans. I would be happy to pay for my share of the cost in getting a copy sent to me. Just let us know when it comes in.

I'll send the pictures tomorrow.

Thanks for the advice, I look forward to getting mine in the air.

I do want to do some 3D with my 30%, so I'm trying to feel out whether the 4.2 will be big enough (it has a 23 x 10 on it now) or if maybe I should sell it and just pay the difference for a ZDZ 80 which I know will haul it vertically with authority.

Thanks guys

Good thread

Speaking of which, if Carden has the plane plans in a cad model or a PDF, I can print out multiple copies on 48" plotter at work for no cost to us, if everyone would cover their shipping costs. (I didn't say that, if someone from work is reading..btw)

@Got Incon : Interesting Idea, that would be great. I'll call them up again and see if that would be feasible. If not, have to stick with the original plan.....no pun intended......

Can one of you guys confirm for me that a starting CG for this model would be the wingtube?

I have a sachs 4.2 on mine and it is not enough for 3D. I am using a 24x8 and while it flies good, it doesn't have the ability to pull up strongly enough.
