Hi Mike
I have been using the Hitec 5945s for over a year now and I like them alot.
I like all the features of them and the price.
I am a bit worried about all the failures I have been reading about in the fourms, I know some people are lacking in experience of setups but alot of these guys that they have been failing on know what they are doing in the set-up department.

Like I said I like these servos but I am not completley confident in them from what I have been reading.

In other words what is causing the servos to quit????? and what can we the user or you the manufacture do to correct this?

Their is probaly is not enought of these failing compaired to the number of them that your are selling for the company (Hitec) to be alarmed but it has me thinking about trying another brand.

Thanks James

I am also a Hitec user. The basic problem with the 5945 style servo is that the case top has a very small lip that the pin supporting the center gears fits into. It is quite easy for this lip to be damaged, for example by bumping a control surface. Once the pin can move sideways in this lip, the gears may lock up. I am convinced that this is the principal cause of most of the in-flight failures you hear about.

I move all my surfaces by hand from time to time to make sure the servo arms turn freely. If you feel any kind of snagging, take off the case top and inspect it.

I've heard that on some of the newer servo models the lip has been made bigger.

In my opinion, Hitec should revise the case tops for ALL their servos and strengthen this area.

Regards,
Craig.

Well that is one thing I did'nt know about. I guess to prevent that problem is to avoid bumping into things.

What I was asking about is the electronically locking up that allot of people have been having.

I'm not sure they do lock up electronically. Never seen or heard of any. All those that I personally know of, have been mechanical lock-ups.

Craig.

Well from what I am understanding people are flying along just fine and dandy and and their surface is going to full deflection without transmitter imputs.

I'd take many of these posts with a grain of salt becuase there have been many incidents that in the end turn out to be caused by other things like extensions, y-harnesses, switche harnesses, batteries, power boxes, etc... Of cource the posts that say this don't get as much attention.

That's not saying that a servo cannot fail becuase they can, but the Hitec digital servos don't have a higher return rate than average. Please remember that Hitec sells more servos than the other manufacturers combined!

Mike.

Well I guess me and the others still using Hitec 5945s have nothing to worry about.

Since you are using this to explain why we see so many failures of Hitec servos, Please post data to back up this claim.....

I guess I should have said the other major manufacturers which include Airtronics, Futaba and JR. If you add all the others out there we might come up a bit short. As for posting the data.... that is proprietary information.

However, I have no reason to make this up as I have been nothing but honest on this board. So, if you don't believe me...oh well!

I will also envite you to read the rules of this forum. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/Hitec_Support_Forum_Policies%21/m_1983593/tm.htm

Hey Mike, I just asked a question. And thank you for answering it.
My point is this, if you sell 4 times more servos than all others. Than it is not unreasonable to see 4 times more failures than all the others combined. That is why I would like to see numbers. No offense intended.
