I second what BentGear said. I tried mine with a Saito 100 (20oz) and an EVO 100NX (28oz). The Saito went back in after one day. If all you do is hover then the heavier engine would be fine. I FLY 3D and it DEFINITELY flies better with a lighter engine. The EVO requited a rearward batt location and 3 oz of tail weight and the CG still was not far back enough. It flew like crap carrying 11oz total extra weight. It would rock bad and fall out of harriers, knife edge required more speed and the Saito had better throttle response.

I run an APC 16x4w on 30% CP Heli Fuel. That combo hovers at 1/2 throttle with a really strong punch out.

I have my CG WAY BACK. I don't know where it is as I just kept moving it back until I was happy. All I know is that my RX pack is in the turtle deck ! Inverted flight required no down elevator. Thats not what I was trying for though I was trying to get the spins to flatten out better. They still aren't really flat but I can't move the CG back anymore. Right now if I burn off all my fuel I need to push down elevator just before touch down to get it to land!

I think using spoilers in spins and blenders might flatten out the spins....more stuff to try next Sunday!

So Adrian - What your saying is you think the Saito 1.20 is going to be too heavy for it?

The Saito 1.20 should not be to heavy. I have a YS1.20 in mine. You do have to move things around a little to compensate for the heavier engine. I have my battery mounted on a plate about 1/2 way back along the fuselage with no added weight. Works great. Have no idea were it is; I just kept moving it back until I was happy. The manual calls for a very conservative setting. But better safe than sorry until you wring her out. The plane is an absolute joy (read that kick in the pants) to fly.

Saito 180, JR digi's sport servos all the way around. 1800MAH pack is behind the canopy wire-tied to the frame for
very slightly aft cg...if not dead on. Swinging a 14x9 3 blade w/ aluminum hub.

To tell you the truth.. too much power. at idle it will roll on the ground. I fly mostly with 2 clicks of throttle....90% of the time extreme slow flight. Unlimited vertical @ 25% to 33% throttle. Obviously hovering is in there as well. Plane responds nicely to controls
and seemingly will not snap under ANY condition other than when properly instructed. I am not kidding. For those of you who own it, you know what I am talking about.

All, meaning 100%, of my landings have been dead stick. I run the fuel out purposely each time just to make it fun. The is one of the best airplanes for such business. Climb to altitude..the smoke trail dies off...and off you go..rolling... dives...loops...inverted landing roll-outs..all dead stick. The plane is an incredible floater. The wing area makes landings a complete joke, and almost thoughtless.

You would actually have to work pretty hard to crash this thing. I've got about 40 flights on mine now. Several gallons of fuel. Only thing that has happened is the bolt loosened up on my landing gear and I lost a wheel. Just harrier in the landing - no roll necessary. I also lost the canopy as the factory trim cracks from the vibes of a big thumper. got another one for $3.84 or some nonsense.. and up up away.

Only downside is that it doesn't come in any more schemes.

This is certianly my favorite airplane. You have to fly it into the ground on purpose to crash this thing. With a Saito 100 on 30% and an APC 16x4 it will fly at a walking pace. Punch throttle and input full anything in any direction and it changes direction inside a fuselage length.

HI All

Will be getting this plane soon. With servos I was planning to use standard Hitec servos, will these be ok or should I invest in something a bit more heavy duty?

Cheers

You should get some high torque servos. The Ailerons in particular are big and have quite a bit of mass.

I was going to run the standard servos at 6 volts to get the higher torque. The hitec 311s run a torque 3.7kg\cm @ 6.0v compared to a high torque servo like the 545BB which runs 4.4kg\cm at 4.8volts. Is this sufficient torque?

Cheers

I run Hitec 425's and they work but are not the greatest. You can tell they are not quite enough for the aelerons.

I am using Hi-Tec 635HB's on the ailerons and each elevator half. 6 volt system. Seems good enough. I wouldn't use anything less. Those big ailerons need fast strong servos.

I would say you need 80in/oz minimum on all flight surfaces.
