Randy,

The old pull-pull system for the rudder uses thin braided nylon covered wire. CG is now slightly (1/4 inch )to the rear of the main spar...maybe I'm to far back?

Ron,

I'd say that if it flys well and is not too sensitive to rudder or elevator inputs you should be OK. My CG is maybe 1/8" behind the spar, but it still needs a little more weight in the tail. Overall weight will make a difference too. I'm close to 14lbs I think... A little nose heavy is way better than tail heavy though!!

Ron and Randy, i have the balance point set exactly as shown on the plans, which is approx 1/4 of inch in front of the main spar and it could still do with alittle more nose weight., as i said it was sensitive. Strange how 3 models of the same type can be so different! Ive completly stuck to the instruction manual through out the build, the only item i changed was the servo mounting system of the ailerons, i have the servos upright instead of layed flat, i prefer them that way for convenience. Ive used dubro heavy duty snakes for elevator and rudder, again i have stuck to the manual and linked to the tail wheel horn.To be honest i like the idea of this. Looking back on yesterdays flights, i think the model made me look to be a better flyer than i really am! Various members of our club were very intrested in the aircraft and the way that it performed.Apache Aviation may just recieve a few more orders. I will keep you all updated of the progression of the model, thankyou,Frank.

Frank and Ron,

Moved my rx pack back another 1/2" or so, thats all the room left in my battery tray. Also moved the glow driver 600ma pack back a couple of inches. May not make a noticable difference but we'll see. It was nearly "balanced" anyway. Are you guys balancing with the model inverted? I just hold it with my fingers to balance, not very scientific! May get to try it tomorrow or Thursday...

Frank and Ron,

Got three great flights in today with the revised CG. Noticed none of that "tail wagging" as in previous flights. Very much improved flying characteristics. Now I think I'll try one of those Sig medium sized tailwheel assemblies and everything will be just grand....!!!

Hi Randy,

Moving the CG back has also almost eliminated the 'fishtailing' on my model. In calm weather it's non-existant but seems to show up slightly in windy weather. Visually it flies much better as I found the lateral movement disconcerting, although no one else seemed to notice it!

CB Associates/ Tatone sell a reasonable tailwheel assembly... will have a look at the Sig version.

Ron and Randy, i think i may alter my c of g rearwards a little at a time, your guys appear to be getting better flight performances.Ive not had chance for any more flying yet, but the weather is still reasonable, so i might get a oppurtunity soon. I now looking for another kit to build, quite fancy flair stearman,or tigermoth, any of your chaps had any experiance with either of these?

Frank,

I have always wanted to build the Tiger Moth from Flair....looks like a really nice airplane, but I've no experience with Flair other than having built the Puppeteer. For something a little different take a look at www.gtmodels.com . The kits are very nice. I'm doing a build thread under the Scale models forum...GTM Hanriot build.

The Flair Stearman looks great also. There are a couple of build threads that you have probably already seen....

Moving the CG on the Chipmunk has made it a much better flyer. It slows very nicely and is much more responsive to rudder and elevator inputs. I may move it back still further ...maybe when i get around to changing the tailwheel.

Hello Randy, just taken a look at your Hanriot build, your a fantastic builder. Also taken look at Gt models, very classy. Hows the chippie? any more flights? Not been able to fly this year due to work commitments and the lousey weather, soon be spring though. Looking forward to lots more flying with the chippie myself.

Hi Frank,

Thanks for the kind words. The Hanriot has been a fun project and the kit really is outstanding.

I think our weather here has been much like yours. Cold, wet overcast and if the sun comes out then its windy! I don't think its been much over 40 since early November. The chipmunk has not been out. I may have moved the CG slightly aft since my last post but the flying characteristics were very much improved over the initial flights, and I don't think any more changes are needed.

Do you know anyone who is building the Monocoupe from Apache Aviation? I have always liked the Monocoupe...there might be one in my future.....

Hi Alain,

I looked in my computer files and did not find any construction photos other than the ones I posted. If you are unable to understand a particular instruction try posting it here, as several of us have built the model. We may be able make it easier to understand. Also, Mike at Apache Aviation is very helpful.

Randy, the monocoupe does look well and im pretty sure that someone in our club will know of a build, or maybe a build will be taking place as we speak. I will do my best to find out when i next go flying.

Frank.
