Hey advanced thanks for any help. I'm new to this whole nitro thing and have an lst. It's a mint truck and it runs OK but this whole tuning thing has got me. i have a few questions:
I am using O'Donnell 20% fuel Mega tech glow plug
Have almost a gallon through it:

1. Did you guys use the Losi settings 0f 2 1/2 HSN or the Dynamite setting 3 1/2 hsn. Mine seems to run pretty good at 3 Anything less It starts to heat up anything more and she won't shift. Temp varies between 230 and sometimes 270.
2. What's the danger zone temp
3. Did anyone have to adjust the springs and shoes of there two speed. Mine never shifted till I took apart the two speed. now it shifts at like 5 1/2 turns. I see some guys are running 4 1/2 but I don't think mine will shift then? Any opinions?
4 Are McCoy plugs Good to use in the Mach 26? which one 9, 8, 59 for just bashing?

thanks for any help

1. I used the Dynamite settings in the engine manual.

2. If I remember correctly in the manual it said no more than 300 degrees.

3. I have had no issues with the 2 speed because the Mach blew up on the 7th tank.

4. I read in another thread to use McCoy 59 glow plugs.

1. I used the dynomite settings

2. A general rule is not to exceed 300 degress. 270 is high but ok.

3. No issues with 2 speed at all.

4. I use an mc59 with monster hp 20%, i get temps of 220-235 and great power, wheelies in high gear and awsome speed.

yes a mc-59 is what came in your engine!! 59 is a hot plug, 8 is a medium plug, and 9 is a cold plug...im using 20% ntiro and i tried the 8 plug (medium) and it just didnt work as well as the 59 (hot) plug.. what heat range is the plug your using? that could be part of your tuning problems..

I set my 2 speed to 5 3/4 turns out, an it shifts at about 20 feet. I want it to shift a little sooner, so I'm gonna try 6 turns out an see what it shifts.
I also been using Bluethunder 20% and O.S. A5 plugs....with temps about 230-240....

Thanks for the help, I have some 59's and some 8's on order should be here in a couple of days, I'll give those a try? i was running it last night and the temps were a little more stable at around 240-245. Maybe I'll pick up some plugs at the hobby store by my house the one in NYC only carries megatech stuff.

Thanks again,

My 2 speed wouldnt shift so this is what i did...

I took out the 2 shoes & set at the factory 5 turns out from bottom,(they were only 1.5 turns out when i received the truck)when i tried to pull the 2 shoes apart by hand they wouldnt budge. The springs were riding up over the head of the screw, and binding up the screw cause both the screw & spring are to big for the hole.So i crimped the top coil just a little to keep this from happening and keeping the spring where it belongs.I aslo felt the threads of the screws "clicking" in the hole that it should slide through,so i took a small drill bit, used it like a file and LIGHTLY filed the holes to remove the part of the ridges that the screws had made. Now it works smoothly and shifts consistantly.

I run Blue Thunder 20% with O.S.#8 plugs,LSN @ 2.25 turns & HSN @ 2.5-2.75 turns.I use the old spit method to check temps.Good Luck

Burna, Thanks for the settings I too did the same thing with the two speed, my LSN 1.75, HSN 3 turns LST runs good just a little hot. I think it might have something to do with the ODONNELL racing fuel. It's only 20% but I think the racing fuels have a lower oil content. That might be why it is running a little hotter than some of the other guys are getting. I used the old PINCH test to set my low speed!! works pretty good!!! I also cut out the front grills and replaced them with some fiberglass screening from the local LOWES. I also think the added airflow has helped with my temps. I am going to try some Trinity MONSTER BREW NEXT!!!
THANKS,

I did pretty much the exact thing when I found mine wasn't shifting to second. It's a really simple mechanism really, pretty easy to work on/tune. Just be careful you don't turn it out so far that the screw heads will rub on the metal. That would be bad.

To answer each question:

1. I started break in of the truck with the dynamite settings. They are a bit fat, even for break in for where I live so I adjusted accordingly.

2. I have no heat gun yet, so I don't know the exact temp but it passes the water drop tests fine so I assume it's in the 230-250ยบ range.

3. I had to mess with the 2-speed as I said. The springs jammed up over the heads and I had to do a similar thing to fix it as posted above.

4. I'm running an MC-59 plug still but I plan on going to a medium plug soon. Generally the larger the engine that colder the plug or so I've been told. I'm using BlueThunder 20% nitro because it was the recommended fuel from Dynamite.

I'm running Monster Horsepower 20% and an O.S. LC3 (hot) plug. I'm getting temps between 200 and 220 with the body on and 80 degrees outside. I know it's a touch rich, but even with these settings it will smoke a stock 2.5 Tmaxx and it starts and runs excellent and reliably. It'll pull wheelies in the grass in high gear. This engine just keeps getting faster and faster each time I drive it. I've never had a problem with it shifting at the box-stock settings. I'm gonna try the O'donnell (Dynamite) #99 plug (Medium/Cold) plug the next time I take it out, just for comparison.

Oh, and I never let any engine get over 270. You're risking damage at anything over that.

All accept the broken clutch spring, no prob had some spres from an old project. Once again thanks for your help. A nitro engine is Mad finicky in what it likes!!!
