I am a newbie with little flight experience and was curious about amphibious planes. I have very limited open areas due to trees where i live but have many large open lakes. Is it very difficult to fly these planes? Could anyone recommend a plane to start with? I also have realflight g2 and was wondering if anybody knew about an add-on that would have an amphibious plane on it. Is this worth pursuing with my little flight experience or should i scratch this idea? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

They are different and not very forgiving. You catch a wing tip or get in a high crosswind and you can end up upside down like I was last Saturday. The flying boats, Sea Monster, Seamaster, Lanier Mariner easily switch between wheels and water. Go down to the Sea Planes forun and read everything there.

doesn't amphibious mean it can go on water and land? i thought float planes don't have the wheels in the floats like full scale planes do

no RC that I know of has the capability for both water and land without modifications. the boat planes usually have wheels that can be added, while float planes can obviously have the floats removed and wheels added.

but as others mentioned, don't start out on the water! that will prove to be a very expensive venture! landing a water plane is tricky, one bad landing and you could be out a plane. (and as a beginner you will have MANY bad landings! )

You really should learn to fly before float flying (Just tried it myself last weekend) but I did notice this float plane that switches from floats to landing gear pretty easy.
