I was looking at the drift kits at yokomousa.com and i saw that the tires hard plastic rings on them, i was wondering if anyone tried super gluing really big zip ties thats u get from home depot on their tires (if u just zipped it, theres the knot), im curious bout the results

mayn your up too..but yea i think this would work juss as good as the yokomo drift tire n rings. all you gotta do is make sure the zip tie is completely glued on.

not really, the plastic rings are countersunk into the tire meaning that the tires have grooves in the to put the plastic rings in them. unless you can find some tires that have deep grooves in them making ziptiesm fit in them, go for it.

and oh yeah, if you try to glue a ziptie on a tire, you gotta make sure that the nub end is cut off so you can actually try to drift.

no..i dont think so ..you juss need some regular tires and juss super glue em on..the reason for those grooves is so the ring has a place to sit into so it wont move out of place..

how would it be for traction..the grooves would never touch the ground untill the rings are worn down enough.

PVC and ABS just don't give enough control. Electric tape is so much better.

so after reading bout pvc and abs on the tires, i went out to home depot today and asked the guy that worked there, he said that pvc and abs wear down bout the same but then the pvc was $7-8 for 10ft when abs was only bout $4-5 for 10ft, and any tips on sawing it straight? it kept slanting when i sawed it, or is demel easier?

Use a miter saw with cutting disc. Hands down this is by far the easiest method to make your self a set of drift tires.

The problem with cutting them out with a handsaw on a work bench is that they almost never come out square... or the same width for that matter. You can fix them not being square or uniform width by doing some figure-8s on some sandpaper... this takes a lot of time ( average an hour for me ) and a definate ability to be able to tell you are sanding squarely and not at a funny angle. argh! too much work for me!

A guy could also use a dremel... but I find they are the same story as a hand saw, but worse. Those things are way too crazy of an rpm to do good work with them around plastic that will melt/sand away way to fast. Ever tried sharpening a knife with one of those things? Dont, unless you like pitted blades. Even more work for me!

So yea, use a miter saw. I know not all of you have access to one and neither did I honestly up till a few months ago. I got mine at some ghetto pawn though for like 50bux and the cutting disc was maybe 10bux at Rona Revy/Home Depot. So make up some excuses to the gf/wife that you need to do some "home improvment" and pick up a miter saw and get drifting on perfectly uniform tires that take a fraction of time to make.

I use my tablesaw with a vernier blade specifically for cutting plastic (only because i don't own a miter saw) with my setup of the saw a block on the rip fence to set my tire width and using the slide bar set to 90 degrees i have no problem making a mass of tires and tossing them into a box for when i need them.

mmMMMmmmm Miter Saw,
