Ok i know there are a lot of variables to take into consideration here but, does anyone have a weight or even a weight range on what the completed TF 1/7 P-51D kit is? I am trying to figure what size engine i need to be saving my pennies for.

I built mine in 97 and it has many flights on it, no tons! Monokote, tank release, main retracts ans some cockpit detail = 9 lbs 3 oz Does great on an O.S. 61FX with TF in cowl muffler, flies just like a WWII plane, can do all the maneuvers that I want.

I am doing alot of what dion did and I am running with a Saito FA-100. From the research I did I found this would be plenty of power. I think I may weight in a bit higher than 9lbs due to glassing but not much.

I finished mine this spring it came in at 11.25lbs with an os 91 fs. On board glow, Robart retracts, flaps, and the entire finish glass and paint added 12oz.

It flies well but I would prefer more vertical performance.
It flies ok on the .91, scale like, buy a mustang looks better moving fast.

I am upgrading to a saito 1.80FS it weighs the same as an os 1.20 so what the heck.

I think I will gain about 10oz for the motor and another 4oz on the tail.
I really don't think the extra weight will be that big of a deal. The plane has no tendency to tip stall when slow and currently can be landed quit slowly.
