More progress on the Porter. Fabricated a canister pipe tunnel for the K&S 94v-4R muffler. I'm going to mount it so the line in to the muffler is inline with the exahust of the R50. Unfortunatley this will require the muffler exit line to have a 90 elbow extension welded on to get the exahust going out the bottom of the plane instead of the side ( or maybe up to the turbine exahusts on the cowl.... that would be cool ) . In addition will have a local machine shop fab a 5/8 x 1-3/4 prop hub spacer so the R50 cylinder is just behind the radius of the chin scoop. Revolution 50 fits nicely in the cowl, will install baffles inside to force air through the fins.

Also renforcing the firewall, using 5oz glass strips to make better contact with the ply rails.
Forward Cowl and fuse top sheeted. Pilot is from vaillyaviation.com

On to mounting the Cowl, I'm going to use a ring mount system so the screws are on the inside instead of the outside.

Nice porter with all scale details. 1800 euros is 2341.00 at todays index plus on the give side 250 for shipping. That was a big risk. I wouldn't have done it. Hope it flys well for you.

Thank Simco, hope the repairs are going well on your Porter

Well since we been having a cold snap here Southern California, I've been whittleing away at the cowl and belly (at least the heater in my garage is still working).
Cowl is aligned via 4-40 steel rods and 1/8" brass tubing (tubing is epoxied into the firewall) 6-32 allen head screws are mounted to the cowl ring on 1/4" standoffs. I ground down the threads toward the head of the screws to make them a "captive" type. The standoff are drilled and tapped for 6-32 thread. This way I wont have to fumble around with the screws when I mount the cowl. I will need a 12" long allen driver to reach the screws though.
Added a 1/4" ply renforcing ring on the backside of the firewall for the enging mount because of the big hole I cut for the pipe tunnel.
Had to put all the fusalage pieces togather to see what it's looking like....wow is it nose heavy, I'm glad my stabilizer/elevator is alittle on the heavy side now.
Firewall forward with the Revolution 50 and mount. As you can see on the front end is the 5/8" prop hub spacer (guess I'll have to polish that thing, that green paint draws you right in)

Landing gear is as per Martin's updated plans for a strengthen platform area. Only addition is a 1/8' x 5/8' aluminium strap for the wing struts to mount to ( just a semi-scale addition - kinda like the full size Porter has).
Next on the fabrication list is the landing gear struts/shock absorbers.

Scott

Did some work on the upper gear mounts to keep the keep them from pushing the sides in. I used 2"x 12"x 0.125 aluminum and cut to shape. then filled in the mounting area with two layer laminated 1/8" ply on each side. Mounting screws are 6-32
Just waiting on some machining work for the gear legs attachment hardware then the front gear will be done.

Finally got the cowl mounted. was waiting for a long shaft allen driver. makes it really easy to take the cowl on and off. Also got the landing gear nearly completed, when I picked up the shaft extension from my friends machine shop I found my drafting skills need improving........ forgot to specify the extensions to be round. A round set are in the making.
Had to put all the pieces together to see what the big box of lumber was looking like. I'm really liking the 3-bladed prop. Current weight is arround 23lbs. Alittle on the heavy side but right now I'm just happy its not sitting on it's nose with the engine wayout there like it is. Canister Muffler exahust is being reworked to exit toward the left and down out the bottom of the cowl. Arthur Leung at Revolution Engines was very helpful in making the exahust header to my specifications.

Haven't decided on the exact paint but I'm thinking of a 2 part urethane. I have a friend in the car painting biz and I'll have to see what he recommends.

Continuing on with the detailing portion of the program. I ordered a detailing kit from rcscaleproducts.com, it included 1/5 scale rivet tape, a white glue despenser and chartpak tape( for flush panel lines).
I found its best to take the tape up right after you get done applying the white glue. I let the glue dry overnite and a few of the rivets poped off. You can see the "new" rivets in the second photo.
