aarcuda -> What does your Ziroli Stuka Weigh? (8/1/2002 5:28:09 PM)

My Stuka is nearing completion and I wanted to know what the finished airplanes are actually weighing. Mine seems to be getting heavy, especially the wing. What weight should I be looking at for a fiberglassed, painted, G-62, Stuka?

fw190d9 -> stuka weight (8/1/2002 7:25:36 PM)

Imrare, My stuka weighs 27 lbs. Its fiberglassed and painted with PPG and is powered by a G62. Pics of it on my webpage. It flies very light at this weight and it can handle 30+ lbs with no problem.

shindin -> weight (8/2/2002 4:19:41 PM)

when i sold mine, it weighed about #23, with everything except batteries & fuel.... that was with an st3250, so the G-62 version would have to be higher....

STUKA BARRY -> What does your Ziroli Stuka Weigh? (8/3/2002 5:28:16 AM)

HEY FELLOW STUKA PILOTS, ALTHOUGH MINES OLDER THAN DIRT, AND AGE IS TAKING ITS TOLL, IT WEIGHS IN AT 29LBS. WITH THE G-62 AND THE I4C AIRSCREAMING SIREN. IT FLY'S LIKE A TRAINER AND WITH THE MEZJLIK 22X10 THREE BLADED PROP, FLY'S VERY SCALE. I DONT HAVE PHOTO CAPABILITY, BUT JUST LOOK AT ANY HIGH FLIGHT MAG FROM THE 90"S, CHANCES ARE GREAT THAT YOU'LL FIND IT IN THERE.
I4C AIRSCREAMING SIREN
OK Stuka Barry, whered you get that siren from ?

STUKA BARRY -> What does your Ziroli Stuka Weigh? (8/4/2002 1:01:28 AM)

ITS ONE OF ROD JOHNSON'S, ORIGINAL SIRENS.WHEN HE SAYS LIFETIME WARRANTY HE MEANS IT. FLYING MY STUKA AT IMAA EVENTS AND NOW IN FULL SCALE AIRSHOWS, HA PUT ALOT OF MONEY IN HIS POCKET. I4C PRODUCTS ADVERTISES IN THE MAGAZINES. GIVE ROD A CALL. TELL HIM "STUKA" BARRY SENT YOU.

ROD'S WEB ADDRESS IS: WWW.I4CPRODUCTS.COM

grahamd1 -> What does your Ziroli Stuka Weigh? (8/4/2002 10:21:23 PM)

Thanks as always, Stuka Barry.

by the way, whats your input on Push rods ?, the Ziroli instructions suggest Glass Fibre arrow shafts. Has anyone tried rear mounting servos ?, or cables.

Suggestions on a postcard please.......

oh by the way, I'll stick the latest photos of the beast latter today on this site. Boy the sheeting is a task on its own.

STUKA BARRY -> What does your Ziroli Stuka Weigh? (8/4/2002 10:40:20 PM)

BOTH MY ORIGINAL AND MY NEW STUKA HAVE DU-BRO 1/4 SCALE NYROD. THE BLACK NYROD, HEAVY DUTY. I DONT RECOMMEND SERVO'S IN THE TAIL FOR BALANCE REASONS. ALL FUSELAGE SERVO'S SHOULD BE IN THE WING SADDLE AREA. ALONG WITH RECEIVER AND BATTERY. THE IDEA IS TO BALANCE THE AIRCRAFT WITHOUT USING DEAD WEIGHT.THE NYRODS ARE EASY TO INSTALL AND ARE FOOL PROOF. ANCHORING THE NYROD THRU THE BULKHEADS, LEAVES NO ROOM FOR FLEXING. THEY OPERATE SMOOTHLY PUTING NO BINDING ON THE SERVO'S. THEY WEIGH NOTHING SO THATS NOT A FACTOR. THIS IS AN INEXPENSIVE INSTALLATION, AND WORKS WELL.

grahamd1 -> What does your Ziroli Stuka Weigh? (8/4/2002 11:47:33 PM)

Thanks Stuka Barry, I'm checking the UK suppliers now on-line, and I have a few catalogue I can look through too.

As promissed here is this afternoons efforts.

STUKA BARRY -> What does your Ziroli Stuka Weigh? (8/5/2002 12:32:11 AM)

THAT THING IS LOOKING AWESOME!

maddog-RCU -> no siren (8/5/2002 7:04:24 AM)

It would seem that we need to find another source for the siren; I4C no longer carries that product.

They do have a whistle but NO siren for our Stukas.

Mustang51 -> What does your Ziroli Stuka Weigh? (8/5/2002 7:41:54 AM)

Sorry to vere from the topic guys... but since this is about the Stuka... What spinner are you guys using along with what three blade prop on a g-62?
Thanks

Ragz -> What does your Ziroli Stuka Weigh? (8/5/2002 12:43:17 PM)

Hi,
This is abt installing servos in the tail....How abt using the VOLZ ultra thin servos in the tail for ele and rudd? They are very light and have good torque for the application. I think they are the Wing Maxx or the mirco maxx servos from VOLZ...I am thinking of getting them for the stuka..unless there is a very good reason not to.

grahamd1 -> What does your Ziroli Stuka Weigh? (8/5/2002 12:47:41 PM)

Hi anurag

I read what Stuka Barry had to say about keeping the weight away from the tail end, so like him I will be fitting snakes (cables).

How far have you got with yours ?

I purchased the Revell 1/48 scale JU-87 plastic kit over the weekend, this is in Tropical colours (sorry for you Yanks, color) with the snake on the side. I intend to use this for my scheme.

Ragz -> What does your Ziroli Stuka Weigh? (8/5/2002 12:52:05 PM)

Hi,
I have just ordered a pre cut kit from giant scale warbirds in switzerland. I wont be starting mine until this winter. I am only collecting hardware and gathering info for this plane. I intend to make it as scale as i can. This is my first large project and first truly scale attempt. What plastic kits do u recommend for reference? Any websites to buy them online?

thanks,
anurag

grahamd1 -> What does your Ziroli Stuka Weigh? (8/5/2002 12:59:39 PM)

Try Hannants I think they ship World-wide
http://www.hannants.co.uk

Or any local hobby/toy stores in India.

I thought about buying a kit, but then looked at the cost of Lite Ply, and couldn't justify the cost of the kit. I sat down with some baking paper (tracing paper) and traced the parts one night whilst watching TV, and cut the fuz parts one wet afternoon. Total time about 5 hours, total cost of wood (in dollars) about $10. Thats for the Fuz only, and only for the formers. I used an electric scroll saw with a fine 3" blade and a 18" throat (depth).

STUKA BARRY -> What does your Ziroli Stuka Weigh? (8/5/2002 7:22:37 PM)

HEY STUKA OWNERS, THE SPINNER/PROP COMBO THAT WORKS WELL IS THE CB-ASSOCIATES 4" P-51 CONE. ITS A PLASTIC CONE WITH A MEDAL BACKPLATE. ITS THE PERFECT SHAPE AND SIZE. THE PROP I USE IS THE MEZJLIK 22X10 3 BLADE. THE RULE OF THUNB IS ONE SIZE SMALLER DIAMETER AND ONE SIZE BIGGER PITCH. I FIND ON THE STUKA WITH A "G-62", THIS RULE DOES NOT APPLY. THE G-62 WILL SWING THE 22X10 MEZJLIK 3 BLADE WITH AUTHORITY. THIS MAKES FOR A VERY SCALE SPEEDS. REMEMBER, THE STUKA WAS'NT MUCH FASTER THAN TODAYS CESSNA 172. THIS COMBO HAS MORE THAN ENOUGH PULL EVEN WITH THE DRAG OF THE SIREN BLARING. AS FAR AS SERVO'S, WHO THE HECK IS VOLZ? ARE YOU GOING TO PUT FAITH IN A SERVO THAT YOU NEVER HEARD OF IN YOUR BRAND NEW $2500.00 STUKA????? NOT ME!!! GO WITH THE FUTABA OR THE JR SERVO'S. THEY ARE READILY AVAILABLE AT LOCAL HOBBYSHOPS AND THEY "WORK". I STRONGLY DONT RECOMMEND SERVO'S IN THE TAIL. THERES NOTHING WORSE THAN ADDING DEAD WEIGHT FOR NO REASON. THE LONGER THE SERVO WIRES, THE BETTER THE INTERFERENCE CHANCES. AGAIN, FOR NO REASON. KEEP IT SIMPLE. THE DU-BRO 1/4 SCALE NY-RODS WEIGH NOTHING AND ARE VERY STRONG, PLUS THEY "WORK". THESE ARE ONLY "SUGGESTIONS" THAT HAVE WORKED FOR YEARS. ITS YOUR $2500.00 MODEL. YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO BUILD IT YOUR OWN WAY. THATS WHAT MAKES AMERICA GREAT. AS FAR AS PLASTIC MODELS, MOMGRAM, TESTERS, AND REVELL ARE GEAT MODEL COMPANY'S THAT DO THEIR HOMEWORK. I'M SURE THAT MOST PLASTIC MODELS THESE DAYS WILL WORK JUST FINE, BUT REMEMBER THAT NICK'S PLANS AND GLASS PARTS ARE FOR THE JU87B-1. THE CANNONS WERE'NT INSTALLED TILL THE "D" MODEL. I HOPE THIS HELPS.

Ragz -> What does your Ziroli Stuka Weigh? (8/5/2002 8:01:55 PM)

Stuka Barry, I appreciate your comments. However Volz servos are absolutely top of the line german servos...chk them out at www.volz-servos.com . These servos are used by some of the top jet guys. The winner of this years jet masters used these.
THE DU-BRO 1/4 SCALE NY-RODS
Hi Stuka Barry, just to let you know I ordered the Snakes, from my local hobby store in the UK, should have them by Wednesday.
Thanks for the advice, as always.

Any heads up yet on a siren replacement ?

Ky Flyer -> What does your Ziroli Stuka Weigh? (8/6/2002 3:02:59 AM)

Barry,
Did you use two servos for elevator, or do you run both halves on a single servo? Im just starting on a Z-Stuka, and would like input on the Elevator and Rudder setup. I feel that I can rely on good quality standard servos for the wing surfaces, but am unsure about what to use for the tail surfaces, of course, I realize if a single servo, the elevator servo should be of super high quality. If I use two servos, and one decides to go south one day, do you think it would be possible to save the airplane on one elvator half? This of course opens the door for the "Two Receivers" question as well. Of course, I will be using two RX packs with seperate switches, but I intend to use only one Futaba RX. My goal is to have a nice safe aircraft and keep my radio budget as low as safety permits. AS you can tell, this will be my first aircraft over 12 lbs.

Also I'd prefer not to have to buy the g-62 until the aircraft is ready to paint, If i build as the plans spec, is there any reason I'd need the engine on hand before starting to build?

Iv'e picked this aircraft because I've always love the evil stuka look, and I have NEVER to date hear any thing bad about the airplane. The phrase "Giant warbird trainer" comes to mind. I was looking for something that i can take from meet to meet, and fly off grass and asphalt, and not have to be knock kneed everytime I fly. I think Ill like this plane. If you cant fly them on demand, then why have em, I say.

STUKA BARRY -> What does your Ziroli Stuka Weigh? (8/6/2002 9:54:01 AM)

GRAHAMD1, CONGRATS ON THE SNAKES. YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED. KY FLYER, SINCE I'VE BEEN ON THE AIRSHOW TEAM, I HAVE LEARNED MORE ABOUT SAFETY THAN MY LAST 12 YEARS OF GIANT SCALE. WHEN YOUR OUT FLYING ON SHOW CENTER WITH 100,000 PLUS SPECTATORS EYE'S ALL ON YOU AND THE BLUE ANGELS F-18'S PARKED ON THE RAMP JUST TO THE RIGHT OF YOU, THERE'S A STRONG SENSE OF SECURITY AND CONFIDENCE THAT FLOWS BETWEEN THE XMITTER AND YOUR AIRCRAFT. I KNOW SOME HOW THAT DOES'NT MAKE SENSE, BUT ITS THERE. I NEVER REALLY UNDERSTOOD OR APPRECIATED THE DUEL RECEIVER SYSTEM UNTIL I SAW HOW IT WORKED. WHEN YOU HAVE $2000.00 MINIMUM WRAPPED UP IN A WARBIRD, THE PRICE OF ANOTHER RECEIVER, BATTERY, AND SWITCH DOES'NT ADD UP TO MUCH FOR THE PROTECTION THAT YOUR GETTING. AS FAR AS SERVO'S, I'M RUNNING ONE GIANT FUTABA ON THE ELEVATOR AND ONE ON THE RUDDER. IN THE STUKA. DUEL SERVO'S ON THE ELEVATOR WOULD BE THE SAFEST WAY TO GO. AS FAR AS THE G-62, YOU WONT NEED IT TILL YOUR READY TO SET THE FIRE WALL. IF YOU GET THE ENGINE LENGTH FROM END OF MOUNT TO END OF PROPSHAFT, THEN YOU WONT NEED THE ENGINE TILL YOUR READY TO MOUNT THE COWL. EITHER WAY THOUGH, GO AHEAD AND PURCHASE THE ENGINE. THAT WAY WHEN YOU NEED IT, ITS THERE. DUEL SWITCHES AND BATTERIES IS A SAFE WAY TO GO. THE FLAPS DONT NEED A HIGH END SERVO. "Y" CONNECT THE FLAP HALVES ON EACH WING TOGETHER. ONE SERVO CAN OPERATE BOTH HALVES WITH EASE. THIS IS AN EASY SYSTEM THAT WORKS WELL FOR ME. I WISH I HAD PHOTO CAPABILITY. THIS WOULD MAKE THINGS MUCH EASIER TO EXPLAIN. ANYWAY, YOU WONT HAVE ANY PROBLEM. YOU HAVE SET UP FLIGHT CONTROLS BEFORE ON YOUR 12LBS. PLANE SO ITS NO BIG DEAL.

grahamd1 -> What does your Ziroli Stuka Weigh? (8/6/2002 4:31:18 PM)

Thanks for the info Stuka Barry.

Tell me more about your dual receiver setup, obviously they have the same Xtal, but then what ?, do you split the outputs ie,

Rudder on one RX, TX on the other, or what ?.

Sorry to be vague but this is the first I've heard of what sounds like a simple, very valuable idea from a safety point of view.
Got severall RX's so no problem.

I know about the dual batteries, and have built a simple auto circuit.

STUKA BARRY -> What does your Ziroli Stuka Weigh? (8/6/2002 8:08:15 PM)

RECEIVER#1: LEFT ELEVATOR, AILERONS,(DONT SPLIT THE AILERONS) AND THOTTLE. THIS COULD GET YOU BACK TO THE FIELD. RECEIVER#2: RIGHT ELEVATOR, FLAPS(DONT SPLIT THE FLAPS) RUDDER, AND RETRACTS. THIS COULD GET YOU BACK TO THE FIELD. IF EITHER RECEIVER GOES BAD, WITH THIS SET UP, YOUR CHANCES OF MAKING IT BACK TO THE FIELD ARE GREAT. USE A SEPERATE BATTERY AND SWITCH FOR EACH HALF. WITH THIS SET UP, A 2000 M/A BATTERY IS ALL YOU NEED. UNLES YOU WANT TO USE DIGITAL SERVO'S. I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT THESE TYPE OF SERVO'S EAT UP A BATTERY, SO YOU MIGHT WANT TO GO ALITTLE BIGGER. DONT FORGET TO PACK THE RECEIVERS AND BATTERIES IN FOAM. ALSO (VERY IMPORTANT) KEEP THE RECEIVER ANTENNA'S AWAY FROM EACH OTHER. I LIKE TO EXIT ONE AT THE TOP OF THE FUSELAGE AND ATTACH IT TO THE VERTICAL STAB. THIS IS SCALE FOR MOST WARBIRDS. EXIT THE OTHER ANTENNA OUT THE BOTTOM OF THE FUSE. I USUALLY CELLOPHANE TAPE IT TO THE BOTTOM OF THE FUSE. ITS OUT OF THE WAY OF GETTING CAUGHT ON SOMETHING ON THE GROUND, AND YOU WONT EVEN SEE IT. THIS SYSTEM WORKS WELL.
