Hello,
First a little back ground. I started this hobby flying heli's, now I am getting into airplanes also. I bought a SIG Kadet Senior from a friend RTF. I love it. So another friend sold me his Jamara Corsair. I bought it because I have always had a fascination with this bird. So now I have this cool looking plane that is ARF but no Idea where to go from here. Can someone tell me where to get the instructions in English, the ones I have are in German. The wings are 1630mm but I don't know what size engine to put in it. I want a 4 stroke but may go for the 2stroke due to price. I also want a 3 bladed prop. Retracts look cool but what are the disadvantages? and are they expensive. Where is the best place to buy on-line? Is this airplane hard to fly? I hear that war-birds don't fly good is this true?
Thanks for taking the time to point me in the right direction.

Many (most?) of us Americans are still 'metric challenged', so a conversion to inches (wing span) would help. Also, do you know the design weight (in oz and/ or pounds)?
Thunder Tiger makes some relatively inexpensive 4 stroke engines, costing just a little more than a comparable 2 stroke.
I favor 3 blade props, they look better AND protect the cowl when/ if a noseover occurs. Master Airscrew makes a variety which can be used with most 4 stroke engines.
Retracts require more maintainance, and are usually more prone to damage than fixed gear. Retracts add a little weight (maybe 1/2 lb), but you will noticed increased top speed with the gear up AND it will probably be able to make slow passes, with trhottle just above idle, with the gear up.
Nontheless, I think a Corsair just doesn't look right flying with the gear hanging down all the time. It's up to you tho, maybe you would feel comfortable with it.

I have no Idea what the weight is but the wingspan is approx 64.1 inches. I will start off flying this bird with fixed gear then go to retracts later once I am used to flying it. Do I weigh the bird with everything but the motor? I want to put a saito 91 or 120 in it. Any thoughts?

Sean,
The .91 should pull it with authority. I built a Top Flite Corsair (almost the same wingspan) that had retracts and flaps. Put a Saito .91 in it and weighed about 11-13 pounds and had no problem taking off, had plenty of power. Landings were something different due to the retracts used (Robart 615's). They tend to buckle the scissor mechanism if not landed perfectly. I agree with CorsairJock, it just doesn't look right with the landing gear hanging down all the time.

Maybe I can help a little, I actually flew my Jamara Corsair fo the 1st time this past Sunday(really it was my 1st time with any corsair) and I have to say it is one sweet flyin' mama!!!!!
I have a ThunderTiger 61 pro (2 stroke)slimline pitts muffler, with a 12x6 mas prop and it is a perfect match.Mine came in at 8lbs, 3 oz (no retracts on this one-sorry CorsairJock- I just couldnt resist You could get away with a 90 2 stroke or 4 stroke as I needed about 4 to 5 oz of weight bolted to the engine mount to make it balance out at the 100mm from the leading edge of the wing (right out from the side of the fuse). The engine choice of course is up to you, but why not let this plane be your stepping stone to bigger and better models , such as I'm doing (heck no, I'm not proud or dont have a ego about flying this one !! I have a BEAUTIFUL corsair coming fom Jack Devine Models that has going to hve all the bells and whistles on her/ thats why I'm getting the feel of a corsair with this Jamara. No, it not a scale contest winner by any means but it sure was fun to fly with my thumbs shakin' and my knees knockin'!!
The take off roll was in about 25 foot at less than 1/2 throttle so go ez on the gas buster!!
I just sent some pics of the 1st flite to my work email so possibly tomorrow I can start a new post with some pictures.
Sean, feel free to email me at work tomorrow or anytime if you need to ask something and I will do my best to answer- just put smething that says Jamara or corsair in the heading text of your message I hope I wasnt too long winded- did I mention how good that thing flies and that was the 1st time I had flown a corsair? Give me a shout jmcgowan@uabmc.edu
See ya!! John McGowan

Please tell me If I am correct here.
A Robart retract is scale looking but if I don't land perfect will tend to sicissor on me. And they cost about 150.
A non scale retract costs about 50 and works good but just doesn't look scale when it is on the ground.

Are these true statements? Please enlighten me.
thanks
Sean
