Hi All,
Im having some troubles it seems.
I bought a plane combo last fall that I have finally gotten to fly,(its a 27% midwest extra,with a Moki 1.8-swinging a zinger pro 18, 6-10 prop).
I was told at purchase plane was new, moki also, with 1.5 gallons of fuel put thru her on the bench to start break in.
I flew the plane on the lowest nitro fuel I had available-Byrons 10 %, it ran ok, started easy, revved like a monster but was detonating a bit at low throttle settings.
I flew the plane at a setting of max r's on the ground then backed off needle 1/4 turn, ran well for 1/2 flight then started to sag a bit as it was leaning out.
By reading posts on this site, found moki's like no nitro fuel,so.............I made some of my own.
Using straight methonal, and mixing klotz super 100 (80%synthetic/20% castor) at 18%, I went out and tryed again.
Engine started rigt up,lower reliable idle was achieved, but it seemed to be lacking on top end by quite a bit.
My tach has dead batteries but I could tell it wasnt revving up like the other day.
Flying it showed this to be true.Where it would climb out indefinetly from a short take off roll, it would now only climb about 200 feet or so.
Upon landing it seemed the engine was very hot, more so than on the 10% fuel.
Everything else but fuel was the same, weather, prop, plane and flying site.
Am I not mixing this stuff correctly?
Do I need to use a different prop with this fuel?
Anyone else have similar problems,or know what is going wrong here?
This is my first large glow engine.
Thanks in advance for any reply's.

When run on 0% nitro, the needle will get very sensitive.
You will need your tach the first few times you tune this thing. Get it fixed.

I run 5% through mine specifically to get a more "user friendly" needle.
I prop for 8500 on the ground. Running a Bambula 18x8. K&B 1L plug.

The plumbing on these things is critical if you're not running a pump. Make sure:
1. Large fuel line everywhere, clunk drilled out to match
2. Tubing between clunk and carb as short as possible (Tank close to motor)
3. Tank level with carb venturi

Make sure you have adequate tank pressure.
You must be able to richen the needle on the ground running wide open.
A lot of Pitts style mufflers aere notorious for not providing adequate pressure.

Go to 15% oil after running 5 gallons through the motor. Half castor, half synthetic.
Be patient with break-in. It takes about 10 gallons.

Hope one or more of these tips get your rig running reliably.
