magyarbacsi -> Goped/pocket bike motors (9/9/2004 9:40 PM)

Does anyone have information on the larger cc motors used by the pocket bikers as to weight, practical rpm and fisability in using them in some of the larger boat hulls? A dealer wrote that a stock 47cc with 4.5 hp can be bumped up to 12 hp, but did not state at what price. The entire bike with the stock 47cc cost $320, plus shipping.But even at maybe $400 or so for the motor, a couple of extra $ for some mods, thats still half the price of a QD, and in a 72" hull a 12 hp motor could make for an interesting fun run.

Fast rat has some experience in modding these motors for the bike gang. Larry, if you are reading this, what sayeth thou? Is it feasible.

The goped people have found a place in our world, rc boats, with the SIKK and Superior HE motors and their hp parts, are the bikers next?

Those 47cc and 49cc fake pocket bike engines are lucky if they are getting 2.5hp! They are too heavy and slow for a boat. If you want a real engine look into a Polini 4.2 series1 or a Polini 6.2 series2 engine. Those are real pocketbike engines that will run as much as 15hp.

I race Pocketbikes and have seen way too many claims that these chinese 47cc engines are pushing more that they really are.

My .02cents is don't waste your money.

Raydee, thanx for the reply. Will check out the Polini.

Just a bit of heads up, get ready for sticker shock! The Polini engines are expensive. You may be better off looking for a 42cc Zenoah or larger.

THe HP claims made from some of those guyz are to excite the kids to get daddies money......

Ballantine does a very nice G62 zenoah conversion near $1000 + but the best there is. but yes you could run those 49cc engines but the rpm is limited and you would have to "reinvent the wheel" to get it mounted. so my recomendation would be to run a couple of the Sikk 29cc engines very user friendly, water jackets are readily accessible, mounts are an off the shelf item. and modded these things "RIP" on a sport boat even with a Can muffler.

Agreed, the Sikk 29s put out a ton of power, either with the jug head or the billet headkit version.
