What foam plane would you recommend that's very durable (crash resistant), can do stunts, & just all-around a good plane?

I know there's no "perfect" plane for everybody - just would like your opinion.

Thanks for your time,
Shawn

Have you considered a wing? You can crash the stink out of them & they survive, usually without any repairs required. My most extreme example happened to me when my brushless wing hit a football goal post doing about 60-70mph. The battery flew out and the goalpost rang like a tuning fork! I thought that it would be demolished. I was very surprised to find no damage at all, beyond scuffing some paint off of the posts & some rinkled tape.

I have several wings & they're all good. However my favorite is the Unicorn.

Good luck,
Brad

Wow!!!! I thought the guy here in AZ was the only one to hit a goal post with a wing. His got deomlished never to fly again, I should say the guy he borrowed it from won't fly it again. But, when you can hit a flag while its flaping in the wind let me know.

yeah 777 is very rightt, the wing is by far the most crash resistant especialy if its EPP. 777 my personal favorite so far is the zagi-XS the 400x was good to, but the XS just rips!!!

How about the Sky Scooter Pro II - watched videos / comments on it - very impressed -

If I was a little better at flying I'd consider the F-27 Stryker...

What's your comments?

Ive got one of the global wattage hyperwings. While its certainly not the fastest (with the stock equipment anyways) its sure takes a beating.

Ive crashed it at least 15-20 times full throttle straight into the ground with no damage other than a wrinkled up nose and some dirty foam.

The funny thing is the other day I was flying it (very low) at full speed and the prop mustve got caught in the (very) tall grass. It ripped the motor off along with its fiberglass plate and a bit of foam. No problem though, just glued it all back together and added some strapping tape for extra reinforcement. I did however have to remove every bit of the covering decals to repair it so now it has a electrical tape striped pattern, doest look as good as it did but it looks better than just plain white.

All in all I like my hyperwing, its not the best, or the fastest, etc. but its CHEAP at 40 bucks so if it gets demolished its no big deal Ill just buy another.

Where did you buy yours?

Yes - I think the wings are probably the most crash - resistant.

Anyone else out there know of an affordable wing package / kit (with radio, servos, motor, etc. - everything you need to get it in the air) or is it best to get the wing by itself and by the servos/radio separately?

Thanks,
Shawn

I got my hyperwing from tower hobbies.

The basic kit is 40 bucks, then you need your radio, ESC, Battery pack, Receiver, and 2 servos.

You can also get a package with the ESC and battery for like 80 bucks. Which is a good deal since the battery alone is 30 bucks and the ESC at least another 30 if purchased serperately.

Both kits include all hardware, the plane, the motor, prop, and prop adapter.

After you pay the 80 bucks all youll need is a 3 or 4 channel radio with elevon mixing 2 servos and a receiver. I recomend the Hitec Laser 4, It comes with a 4 channel radio, a feather receiver, and 2 hitec hs-55 sub-micro servos, I paid like $115 for my radio system.

Other than that youll just need a battery charger and basic building stuff like, epoxy, razor knives, tape, etc.

All together your looking at about ~200 bucks to get it in the air. Less if you use a cheaper 3 channel radio (as long as it has elevon mixing) but I dont recomend a 3 channel because you cant reuse it with many other planes.

If you already have a 3-4 channel radio with elevon mixing all youll need (other than the 80 dollar package) is 2 sub-micro servos ($18 each), and a feather receiver (about $30).

Some places sell the package dealls with everything you need, but most of them come with 3 channel radios and you only save about 5 dollars getting that way. your beter off getting it all serperate and ending up with stuff you can reuse for most any other small electric plane.

Shawnr,
The sky scooter pro II is a very good plane. It isn't so much crash resistant, as it is repairable. You can bust it up time and time again and with a little hot glue or 5min. epoxy and some packing tape it's back in the air. They are fun to fly, very aerobatic, and once you get to the limits of the stock plane, very modifiable. Hobby people just had a sale on them for $129.00!! This is with everything you need to fly. Radio, servos already installed, battery, (although you'll soon want more and better batteries), motor. props, a chepo charger. Best fun $130.00 can buy!!

I'll also recommend the the Unicorn. I tried a lot of different planes trying to find a good all around flyer and the best one has been the cheapest, the Unicorn. I've been flying mine for about a week and all I can say is I'm selling off my other planes to buy more battery packs for the Unicorn. Every body that has seen me fly it just can't believe how well it flys. Anybody want to buy a SR X-250.

I imagine it must be pretty good, its a zagi after all

However the tower hobbies description says its for intermediate to advanced flyers. If its going to be your first you might want to look into the 400XS which is described as for begginers-intermediates.

I know people who have zagi and have gone over to Unicorns.http://unicornwings.site.yahoo.net/index.html
Also go over to the Ezone and do a search on Unicorns and be prepared to do a lot of reading.

Shawn

I learned to fly on a Zagi 400 X and I couldn't recommend a better wing for ya. Its a very good beginner plane that will take a beating over and over and over again( trust me... lol I learned first hand) Now I fly the Zagi -XS which is Zagi's newest wing yet, its a thinner airfoil which means more speed, but also a higher stall. It tends to stall on a tip, which is why its not recommended for beginners. If you can still find the Zagi 400X go for it, its an awesome starting out choice. Good luck!

Thanks for the input on the ZAGI 400 - by the way does it do good acrobatics?

I've located one for a good price somewhere - I assume they no longer make the 400's ??

Thanks,
Shawn

Yes the 400X was a very good wing, and extremely stable. It will do vertical stalls, rolls, loops you name it. Zagi no longer makes the 400X I still have mine sitting in the closet, hopefully gonna reserect it one day lol... Anyways good luck!
