Hi Sam,

All our manuals are located in the Download Section of our Web site.

You can get a copy of the FS8 manual here.

I'm new to the electrics in RC and recently purchased the Condor Voodoo powered glider from Hobby Lobby. I believe I have figured out the electronics which call for three Kokam 3 cell 2000 mah packs wired in parallel to power the AXI 4120/14. I am using the Graupner Ultramat 12 Automatic Charger. Charging the batteries seems simple enough with the charger but I'm not clear on what the discharge rate should be and down to what voltage? Also, what is a suggested voltage cut off when programing the Jeti Advance PLUS 70 Amp Opto Brushless Controller? Thanks very much. Tim

Hi Tim,

Each of the Kokam 3-cell 2000mAh packs can be discharged at burst of 30amps for 20-30 second periods. When you put 3 packs in parallel, you triple this discharge rate to 90-amps and triple the capacity to 6000mAh or 6AH. The current delivery of 90amps is much more than the AXI 4120 motor can take so the real limitation is about 50-55amps for the motor.

There is no need to ever discharge a Lithium pack with your Graupner Ultramat 12 Automatic Charger. If you fly with the packs in parallel, you can also charge them in parallel as a single super pack on a 3-cell voltage setting at up to 6amps. If you charge the three packs individually, use a 1C or 2-amp setting.

For the Jeti Advance PLUS controller, select the following:

  • Li-XX - Accu type
  • Low - Cut-off voltage
  • Slow down -Cut-off type
  • Brake On or Off (your preference)
  • Timing High for Outrunners
  • Throttle curve (your preference) (Linear is normal)

Good luck!

Greg, thanks for your advice. I really appreciate it. I didn't realize that I could charge all three packs at the same time. Also, after years of always discharging and then charging my nicad packs after flying each day, I just assumed that Lipo packs needed to be discharged. I guess if memory isn't a problem with these packs then I won't worry about it. I would like to ask one more question about charging. Is it important to have all three packs charged to the same voltage before flying? In other words, if one pack wasn't charged up and the other two were, would there be problem flying this way other than the obvious lower capacity?

Tim

Tim,

That's correct. The assumption is that when you first connect packs (or cells) in parallel that they have the same voltage.

When the packs are brand new, they are typically shipped at 1/2 charge so you can verify the voltage with a voltmeter and then connect them in parallel. The other easier way is to charge them first and then connec them in parallel. Once connected in parallel, you can treat them like a single big pack.

Good luck!

Just purchased a Hanger9 F4U Corsair 60 and want to go with electric power. Can you give me an idea of what I should use for motor and power supply. I'd like to try the latest power system that gives better than average power.

How about an entire e-conversion review?

Hangar 9 Corsair E-conversion

Simply replace the 6s Lithium supply with a newer design like a BalancePro HD Lithium Power Solution using a 1p6s 3200mAh pack.

Use the BalancePro HD 6s charger, 6s DPM, and 6s 3200 Lithium pack for total safety during charge and discharge.

Good luck!

I've been using Li poly batteries for some time now . This week I bought a 2100 3s TP and during connecter installation it sparked .Then there was no energy in the wires although I'm sure the cells are O.K. I just think a wire must have shorted .I don't want to take this battery apart by myself . Is there anywhere I can send this battery to have someone look at it ?
Thankyou Jeff

Jeff,

You should be fine if the spark was in the connector or at the two lead ends. The two leads probably touched for a moment causing the spark. This also happens when you connect the battery to the ESC unless using the new Castle Creations Phoenix HV ESCs.

hi, can I use the Scorpion 2S Car Charger to charge the 6400 Balance Pro2S lipo? Also what is the difference between this lipo and the Scorpion 7.4V 6400mAh Car LiPo? (besides the Built-in Low Voltage Cutoff )

David,

Yes, you can charge the 2s BalancePro pack on a Scorpion charger. The only difference in the pack is the LV Cutoff and cables to connect to the ESC.

Now get more punch, power, and pack life for your dollar with new lower prices on all Scorpion products only on-line at FMA Direct!

The Scorpion 3200 R/C Car Pack is exactly like the Scorpion 3200 14.8v R/C Monster Truck Pack? (Except the Monster Truck is X2, and therefore slightly less expensive per piece/battery pack?)

If so, when are you coming out with a X2 (or Monster Truck version) of the Scorpion 6400 R/C Car Pack? I need all the savings I can get!

I like the idea of the low voltage cutoff, as I like to make sure of the batteries' longevity (they are expensive little buggers, and need some tender loving care).

You see, I think for performance and value, LiPos are the way to go. Look at my comparison:

To get great performance and life from NiMH, I was originally planning to get:

1. Several NiMH high quality packs;
2. Team MuchMore CTX-D charger;
3. Spintec Battery Manager (Discharger)
4. Tekin Battery Doctor Equalizing Tray

Now, with LiPo, I think all I need are:

1. Several LiPo packs (less than NiMH since I'll use LiPo more than 2X/day;
2. Scorpion 2s 10A LiPo Charger

And despite the lack of gadgetry (separate discharger, equalizing tray, etc), the LiPos seem to have:

More punch
Longer runtimes
Longer life (?? More charge/discharge cycles)
Less maintenance and fussing around

--Alfred

EDIT: While I'm at it, what's the difference between the Balance Pro2S and the 2S Scorpion?

quote:

FMA’s Balance Pro 2s Charger is part of a revolutionary new LiPo battery and charge system for R/C aircraft. In essence, it is very similar to the 2s Scorpion system for R/C cars.
