Shameless bump, but is there anyone else out there in the process of either flying, building, or planning to build one of these this winter?

Come on guys, there must be others with built Flankers and pics to post???

Spar

Anyone with info on Alex's (AKM) F16?

How many out here would be interested to try F-16 as test built/refine/test fly program? I would offer very limited maybe 5 kits (as always all laser cut) and plans (simple, not much text), but very useful. I do have canopy, nose cone molds and tail cone molds.

I had one built myself, it comes together very easy, I also had another guy try one of them, but he went off the plans and decided to go with Full Fly stab, witch killed it.

See his built thread here: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=504463

Please let me know directly at akm@mchsi.com or post it here as well.

I would be interested in one. Just need to know for sure what retracts I would need or if it will fly just as good with fixed gear. Kind of a limited budget. I've flown my SU-27 a few times but am having a little trouble keeping the nose up with out useing rudder in a high speed turn. would like to get away from this if at all possible. Is it possible to move the fuel tank back a little farther without too much modifying of the frame (fuse) Or could there be something else that I'm missing that is causing this problem. I have a ST-61 with the big ugly muffler on it but I do plan on getting a tuned pipe for it to help reduce some of the nose weight. I also have a problem with the nose wheel flexing too much and hitting the prop before I can get airborn. It doesn't happen al the time but when it does kindof ticks me off.

I would love to have one, but it would definitely be a winter build as I have almost zero time right now, due to work.
So, c'mon people, ante up. Good builders are needed for the test group.

(Alex - nice to see the pics of my Flanker on the website... looking good! )

Well since I started this thread, I vote for the guy down under. Sort of a buy one get one free.

ncrhrome,

I have a Flanker and my nose does not drop in a high speed turn and my nosewheel does not flex. It tracks like its on rails. It tracks so well that I am confident in pulling a full power 180 just a few feet from the ground. Knife edge flight requires very little rudder but does need a bit of down to keep it straight. I can get it to waterfall nicely when I cut the power back but recovers the drop easily with a little more rudder pressure and a bit of throttle.

However, a friend of mine has one as well and his C.G. is a little farther forward of mine. His nose does drop in the turns and you need to coordinate a little rudder to keep it level. I would recommend adding a bit of tail weight until the nose gear almost floats above the ground. To give you and idea when I land I hold the nose up to slow down and it doesn't drop until the plane is almost stopped. Sometimes I start turning it around to taxi it back with the nose in the air. Just sitting on the ground I can lift the nose about an inch and it will settle back on the tail boom.

My C.G. is located on the front bolt of the retract. Yeah, seemed a bit nutty to me at first too but it really makes the plane fly, track, and land well. You can almost reach out and touch it as it saddles right in for a landing. As for my friend I will readjusting his C.G. this week.

BTW I am running a 91FX with a 12x8 and a Jett pipe - What size prop are you turning I have gobs of clearance? I hope this helps.

Robert

Alex,

This is awesome news! How soon will you have the kits ready? The end of the flying season is drawing near and I would like to build another one of your kits.
