I suppose neither system is perfect. Obviously each system has its advantages and problems. Even more off topic how do they measure service time on turbine engine in helicopters. I heard they limit the number of starts between overhauls.

Rupert,

I know we record starts, but I have know idea how they figure it into the service interval(100 hour, 300 hour ect.)

Dave

Disagree. I'm a 44 year old American and, for me, there's nothing easy about the metric system. I understand the concept of increments of ten, but my mind tries to relate meters to feet, etc, so it just adds complication and frustration.

My eyes are about three years older than yours, and my skull probably a little thicker, but
metric is easier when you let it be. Next time you're centering a stabilizer or a wing, just measure in mm instead of inches. You'll find it comes easier with use.
Be thankful that when you go to buy a prop the price isn't 2 and 29/32 dollars !

At a bit over 60, and being in engineering, and also having family in another country, and having had a number of business trips overseas for as much as a month at a time, not counting time in the USAF overseas, I don't find metric particularly dificult, except for pressure measurements.

We've been metric in Australia for about 30 years but if you pump up your tyres at a garage the gauges still read in psi...even the latest digital readout ones. Although there's a metric chart printed on them because the car manuals give pressure in metrics.
