Another question. IS it ok to put a brushless speed comtroller into the cessna, using a lipo battery and the stock motor? my servo's glitch sometimes and i was told its down to the speed controller. I already have a new reciever on the way

right, first thing youve gotta do is rip the spinner off. thats the red rubber bit, just pull it off as its a press fit.

then your gonna have to undo the prop nut, take the prop off.

then get a small phillips screwdriver and undo the screws holding the cowl on, take the cowl off.

after that im not too sure, should be pretty much obvious tho...unscrew the motor mount, unplug the ESC and take the whole assembly off, shove your new motor & ESC in, put the cowl on, put the prop on, put the spinner on and your done

im interested to see how this goes...take a video camera with you on its 1st flight

also a brushless speed controller cannot be used with a regular motor...not with much sucess anyway. ive never had problems with the speed controller on either of my two cessnas...if your hell bent on changing it out, pop down to the LHS and see if you can get a major brand 50 amp micro one and you should be good to go cant see the problem with the stockers anyway...if it gives up then get the nose down and glide it in...i doubt anyone will mind if you totally miss the runway

Thanks for the advise. Unfortunaltely, I only got as far as you said lol. ITs an out runner motor and the stock motor is completely deifferet. The brushless one i got is the one art tech and loads of other sites recommend for it. It doesnt seem to fit in the stock motor mount at all. It did come with a stick mount but the cessna hasnt got a stick mount with the stock motor. Ah well, patience...Im sure someone will know...I hope.
Do you know about the glitching in the servo's or what mite cause it? Most seem to think it is the esc but im not 100% sure myself.

Quite difficult to help you out, now knowing what the problem might be.

Is there someone locally who can take a look at the plane to determine if it was put together properly? Perhaps he could fly it and trim for you and help you out?

If not, perhaps you can give us more details as to what's happening when you try to fly it.

Hey jmir. I was hoping you could help[ me with this..
I got a brushless motor for my cessna. Its an out runner. The one you can see on art-tech home page www.art-tech.cn Its a silver one recommended for the cessna. I just dont have a clue how to install it. It comes with a stick mount but you know that the cessna hasnt got a stick etc. Im totally lost on this one

I looked at the Art-Tech page and could not find the motor you mentioned in your message.

Nevertheless, if it's a stick mount, I think you could still use the motor housing that comes with the stock Cessna.
I would just turn it around (bottom of the housing would then be the top), drill holes on the housing and attach the stick mount to it.
You might have to shorten the housing, depending of what kind of motor you are using, how long the shaft is, etc.

You can also make one out of light, plywood. There are several samples of motor mounting in these forums if you search for them. I think Glen Clovey has some using plastic pipe, if I remember correctly. I'll try to find these for you.

By the way, I'm still using the stock motor that comes with the Cessna. It's not the original, but a replacement. It has lots of power and I'm only using a 2S, 7.4V li-po with it. Tried a 11.1V li-po, but was afraid the wings might fold with all that extra power. Also, the motor may not last as long. I have not actually measured the speed, but it has to be close to 50 mph.

Take a look at Post # 195 (page 8) to see some photos of the stick mount conversion on an Edger 540T.
It would be a similar set up on the Cessna. I'm pretty sure you will have to cut the Cessna motor mounting and make it shorter.

Hope this helps.

Thanks jmir. Here's an ebay link to the motor I have. It is the one art-tech recomment so I thought it'd be easy to setup. Maybe you could look at this one and see if you can come up with anythiung. I'd really appreciate it but ill check out that post anyway.
Thanks

I'm sure it could be done. Also, don't forget that you have to purchase a new ESC since the one supplied with the Cessna is one for brushed motors. Also, make sure the ESC has proper cutoff for li-po batteries if you are using them.

I think the conversion would be somewhat difficult and will not be reversible. So you have to make sure it will work. Of course, you can purchase the motor housing replacement and try it out that way just to make sure.

You will have to measure all clearances to make sure the motor fits and the cowl can be installed over the motor. You will probably have to cut the motor shaft since it appears quite long, especially if you have to install the prop adapter. Take a look at the Edge 540T conversion so you can see what I mean.

Personally, I don't think I would try it. As I mentioned before, I'm very satisfied with the stock motor.

If you go through the conversion, don't forget to take some photos and post them.
