Flatout

the sims are a good way to get used to flying, atleast when you crash it won't cost you anything,

it will give you a good idea about the way the plane flys esp when the plane is flying towards you,the controls are backwards,

after a few hours flying on the sim and you are able to take off and land you'll be ready to fly the real thing.

The cessna is a great plane to learn from and it is easier to do slow and controlled landing,i'm not sure with looking at the link if it's a 3 channel or a 4 channel

4 channel is in my opinion a better plane to learn with as if you can fly one of these,in time you will be able to fly much more,

difference is 3 channel you fly the plane using rudder and tail(real planes don't fly this way) and with 4 channel, you have ailerons in the main wing, hence real flight, hope this helps you,,,,stu

Flatout -I see you found the thread and Stu........I've been checking out that Cessna and all the facts check out as a decent plane. B/less, lipo, 25A esc, 4-ch and ailerons - all good!!! And the flight Sim is the one I told you about. If you think you can handle aileron control I would be tempted, the usual for newbies is just elevator and rudder, but thats not to say its too difficult to fly aileron - just makes it "interesting".

Hiya Stu, see our lot in Glasgow trashed your City of Manchester, bloody hooligans. A mindless few have disgraced the Scottish people - thank Gawd for decent flyers, eh!!!!

Cant comment about the plane itself, although brushless from the start is good, what are spare parts price/availability like? A simulator is a great cost saver for a new pilot, its helped me spend more time in the air and less sticking out of the ground I chose the ArtTech/Ego Cessna for my first plane because it looks great and this thread has been so informative from set up to modifications, not to mention the technical know how of all the contributors here.

Hah, didnt even realise it was up to page 121 now. What Stu said is spot on.
Does anyone know if you can buy just the firewall and motor mount without a whole new fuse? Chain link fences cause F.O.D

Man this plane (with Brushless) is better every-time I fly it!!! I have finally build up the confidence to fly inverted for a longer time and like to do aeros.... I'm looking at the Futaba 2.4ghz 7c as my next radio. (yes I'm still flying with STOCK radio gear.)
BTW some other guys down at the park I was flying at commented on the look of the cessna. Very Nice!!

Hey Kiwi, I think sometimes you can get lucky with the stock R/C gear (they make enough of them, law of avearages and all that!!!) I havent had any dramas with mine either, mind you upgrading can only lead to bigger and better things

Hey Stu,

I am going to be in the UK in a week and a half for a friends wedding, will be in London for a week from Wednesday 11 then to Essex area? wherever that is, for a week. Do you know if there are any meets on during that time around there? Its very isolated where I live and I would love to see an organised event for R/C'ers
Cheers, Dave

Dave,I'm not really sure if there will be any meets at that time as i live quite away from London(about 450 miles away)North West nr Manchester,

But one thing you can do when you get there is to buy a model plane mag and look for events, most probably there will be something going on esp around that area,Everything seems to happen around the South area so you might be lucky,

I have been to a couple but many years ago and wouldn't mind going to one myself but it's way to far away for me to travel esp with the petrol prices going up.

I hope you will be lucky to find somewhere as they are quite breath taking

Hope this helps you,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Stu .

Thanks Stu, we get RCM&E mags at our newsagent so will have a look at the latest issue, problem is they are 2-3 months behind . I hear you on the petrol issue, its getting out of control, we still pay a lot less here in Oz than you guys do but every price rise hurts. Electric flight is just gonna keep becoming more popular I reckon. Cheers

Was flying today, first time with a new 1800mA battery, about 10mins in it just nose dived to the ground about 25-30 metres from me. When I got to it nothing worked, all the control surfaces were still deflected how they were when it went down (right rudder, up elev and aileron) Disconnected the battery and checked all the connectors (ok) refit the battery and nothing- no beeps from the esc, servos didnt reset. Came home and tried 2 other flight batteries and new tx batteries and still nothing. If the ESC is R/S will that cause this or should I be looking at the RX?. The ESC is a TowerPro 30A so it is a long way from top of the range but has been reliable for 6 months now. If anyone has any ideas I'd be grateful.
Thanks in advance,
Dave
