I assume that the best place to mount the servos would be on the wing directly in front of the aileron control horn so as to keep the control rods as short as possible. That would leave the current servo aileron free to control flaps instead of using flaperons. The main problem I can see is that the servos would interrupt the free flow of air under the wings but I don't know if this would matter much.

I'd use micro servos. How do you do the flap mod anyway? could someone post pics?

If you use small enough servos you can imbed them in the wing. I'll go and take some pics of mine now.

I wasnt thinking straight when I fitted the servos, I'd already mounted the horns trying to use the same setup as the ailerons (which I couldnt get to work properly

) so I dug out the reliefs with a sharp knife till the servos sat flush then I made a shallow channel for the servo leads with a soldering iron. I need to sort out some better hinges, the tape I used (copying the ailerons) isnt working as good as I hoped.

Forgot to say, the servos I used are the same arttech servos used for the elevator and rudder

I mounted the in the wing right inline with the horn. I used HXT900s and they roll her VERY quickly. The air under the wing does not really matter as the it is the air OVER the wing that does all the lift. Obviously anything hanging below the wing will create drag, but when your Cessna is pulling 25A drag is not an issue!

If you upgrade the power plant you might want to think on reinforcing the wing with a carbon spar. I have - is dead easy and will stop your bird from snapping a wing in a high banked turn.

Gentlemen (and I use this term lighltly!!!!) - just a tip when buying servos. Servos are all the same in the 5grm and 9grm range - WRONG!!!!

yes. the gear wheels are all white, but what are they all made of, d'ya know?? Its plastic, the stuff that keeps you're trousers up or may even down!!!! But there are servos the same price that are 50% better (not foolproof!!) becuase the gear wheels are ceramic or 'export only' - twice as hard etc etc. just do a search oI-net or ask you're LHS owner etc. It will save you pounds/$/yen etc.

And no - I will not buy a Cessna 'cos my wife's cupboard is tooo small......

My servos: HXT, DYS and jut search and ask....its your money and plane

What do i fly when i'm now retiered at 53... 20 planes from a Zagi, new MPX EZCub, 3 EZ*, Cub, Formosa, my fave the SlowStick, and quite a few more etc....and Strykrs..

What does Mongrel fly? A ballistic Cessna, an amphibean, a 3D Profile, and 50 or more beauts of planes....lucky Bar Steward......

By mistake I orderd 2 2409-18's. With a 9x4.5 and a 8x4 the Cessna did not want to gain air, it just kept pointing straight up then stall turning into the ground. 2409-12 now fitted but does anybody know of a nice twin prop model I could fit these to so they dont go to waste? something that would fly[:@)
Am almost finished rebuilding a mates .11 Fuji, wonder how that would go

Hi All,
Thanks for the info, I have already upgraded the moter and fitted carbon fibre rods to the wings and elevator. I have since hit the deck hard a couple of times and now instead on the wings breaking the fuselage simply crumples up.

Yep!! That will happen when foam meets the ground at a high rate of speed!!

The best way to prevent that is don't crash!

That may be ok for you "experts" but for us mere mortals it's easier said than done. I think I must have one of the few Epoxy Cessnas flying. It does has bits of foam here and there, but not much!

Hey Ash, you do reach a point where you have put so much epoxy into it that the 2408 is working to get it airborne

. I thought I would be lucky to get 1 more flight out of mine, that was 6 months ago! There is so much epoxy and electrical tape on it now the only damage it gets is the prop shaft(doesnt even seem to matter which orientation it hits the ground in

)
Out first thing tomorrow with the new fuse and 2409, cant wait to see the difference. A mate is coming who has just bought a Katana, should be interesting to see how his introduction to r/c goes with it
