Ive got 3 dead motors here due to that the wires out the back are definitely a TowerPro motors weak point, havent tried 'soft string?' to tie them back yet, have used cable ties but that cut thru the last one. The motors with the anodized yellow base seem to be a lot hardier, for a couple of bucks more. BTW my mate with the Edge who had one bad crash (it was a beauty ) has given up on it! I asked him if he had put it back together a week later and he said he wouldnt bother and he was looking for a new plane! What the!!! He had a quick go at gluing it back together and thought , easier to buy another! Im still trying to convince him to at least have a crack at it, got nothing to lose. Anyway will see how it goes, I may end up with a perfectly serviceable Edge!!

Gronsta - sorry to hear about the TPro's, just put it down to experience. I go on the Aussie BBQ thread every day, a great bunch of guys, loads of help etc. One of them is sending me a Himax 2815 inrunner for my new EZ* to make it go vert - should be nice. It was them that put me on to Multiplex planes and I've never looked back. I've got the EZ* (3rd one), big EasyCub, Fox, Slow Stick, 2 Strykers, 2 Profiles, I Zagi, a 60in. Balsa Bushwacker made from plans thats a beauty, Cub, 4 Acipter Badius gliders, and a few others. And I just put an order in for a Piranha Hydro Plane (EPP) for those cra$$y wet windy days that you lot don't have. Watched Geelong thrash the Swans last night, brilliant!!!

See ya all, byeee.....

Oh, for those that don't understand Gronsta's lingo I have the Australian Dictionary available as an attachment. EG: Sheila=g/friend/wife/Bird. Drongo=not a nice name etc.......

If you use the engineers the device will either be made out of titanium and cost thousands of $ or be engineered out of cast iron and weight a ton. I have some 1/8" aluminium for the two plates and three short nylon screws with springs to hold them together. Just need to tap the threads in the Ali. It might even cushion the engine etc on rough landings! Work has been getting in the way this week but hopefully will get a chance to try it at the weekend. I'm not too worried about the weight as I already have a lump of lead in the cowling to get the C of G correct.

Hi all

Well an update, I just purchased a new battery (ESKY 1800mah 3c Lipo) cos the Hextronic puffed and now have unlimited vertical!! Thats cool... Flew about an hour ago and unfortunately the plane met the ground at a medium rate of speed ouch . I was seeing how slow I could go with flaperons and forgot about the nasty tip stalling tendencies this plane has . Needless to say all I need is some epoxy and toothpicks, amazingly nothing broke (except for the cowl), just crunched the front of the fuse a bit. Nothing too major.

Thats all for now

Hey Kiwi, what motor are you running now? i tried a T/Pro 2409-12 and -18(ordered by mistake ) with 8x4, 8x6 and 9x4.5 props and 1500mA and 1800mA batts(both 20C)and I got the performance out of the old 2408-12 (didnt make much diff between the 2 batteries, the 1500was much nicer to fly but due to the lighter weight)

Have found a new place for aerial antics, its a tidal sand flat that backs onto our cemetary, Dead calm most of the time (glitch sometimes but, Poltergeists?) is sensational area but need 4wd to access. Is great though, roughly 800metres by 200metres with the highest tree outside of that measuring 1.5-2metres high! Has been great for practising, well, just about everything!!!

Have bought my first crunchie, a Vmar L14 Grasshopper (military Piper Cub) 1/2 again the size of the Cessna, should be good fun(when my missus lets me at it at Christmas ).
Gotta get a video camera, been practising inverted flight and have to say its reminding me of my first flights, lots of puckering! specially when it all seems to be going well then you realise how close youve got to the hard stufff!! LOVE IT!! Also had a Bloody Bull Buffalo tear up our strip yesterday morn(not happy with rippin up our golf greens, now they want our runways ) Cheeky bugger waited till we go there so he could laugh at us!
Anyway, nuff from me for now,
Fly hard

Hey Gronsta, I'm running a TowerPro 2409-12 with a 20 amp hyperion ESC and my new ESKY 1800mah 3C battery, the battery made all the difference, with the Hextronic performance was OK but not great but with the ESKY I now have unlimited vertical. I've couplede this with a 8x4 Master Airscrew prop.

Warriors are gonna kick ass (i hope ).

KIWI

Off to fix my minor crash damage (including a 50Ëš prop shaft )

Has anyone flown the Cessna 182 without the cowl attached?
Just wondering if this would negatively affect flight or if anyone knows firsthand.

Are you using the art tech battery charger? Because if you are it may be false peaking, eg not fully charging the battery so when you go to full throttle the battery cut off comes in because the voltage drops? Just an idea...

Wrote a bit of a story before but I wasnt allowed to post it Timed out or some ****e, anyway, Cessna still tearing up the airlanes(much to some of my mates with much more expensive jobbies annoyance suck on that . New flying area we have here is the best for learning all the skills, heaps of room and no trees!

Been a while since I visited this thread so I thought I'd post my latest. I finally tried a 3S lipo instead of the 8s NiMH and I'm lovin' it. It's an 800 mah I had for my foamy. I've been determined not to cut the battery box and these just fit. That's with a 2408-21 spinning a GWS 8043 prop. It's not the power I wanted but the ability to fly slower. There is enough punch there if I need it. I think the flight time is about the same as the NiMH pack but I haven't timed it. If you're looking for a cheap RX on 72 or 35 MHz, try the Esky EK2-0420A. I have been flying one on my Slow Stick night flyer without any problems.

Hey Sporn, me and my mates here have been flying off a tidal sand flat lately- need lots of CRC/WD40 (dont know what you call it over there) to keep the wheels turning freely seeing as the u/c wire is getting very rusty!! And to think the effort some people go to trying to get weathering realism on their planes . BTW I love all the tape reinforcement/repairs on yours, mine looks the same, repairs but, not for reinforcement
Chris, I had a 1500mA LiPo which fit fine and with the 2408 was magic, I then tried a 1800 which needed the front of the battery box to be cut out, it was better for air time so I went and fitted a 2500mA Flightpower which slotted straight in. The thing is it flew a lot better with the smaller battery, weight/balance was better. In hindsight I should have got 3 more 1500's for the price of the 2500

My 2nd fuse is officially retired, a graceful nose dive to earth compressed the front about 25mm/ 1" back and to the right, very unnatural looking!!! Might try and resurrect the first one which I had a go at converting to a low wing- guess now's as good a time as any to see if it will fly.

If anyone is still reading this thread, I had a go at some lights to see how they would look. They do help when it starts getting dark, wouldve preferred a proper strobe action but!! http://www.youtube.com/my_videos#

The lights look impressive, what sort of drain on the battery do they make?

I'm also in the process of updating my Cessna with the addition of flaps. I fly in a local farmers field and the ground is so rough that smooth landings are impossible so I'm hoping that the stall speed will now be slow enough for decent landings.

Hey Gronsta that looks good. I'm looking at the Great Planes RV4 40 kit as my next plane... Unfortuanly with the exchange rate like it is, the kit + receiver from Tower Hobbies is NZ $140 more than it was in June

BTW heres a better link for your vid Gronsta : GRONSTA LIGHTS

They draw 20mA, I didnt notice any difference in flight times with them off or on. Im running the standard wing at the moment, I didnt get a chance to see how much difference the flaps made to the stall speed, first time I used them they pulled the tape off. Ive ordered some proper hinges so they should work properly next time.
I got my mate to film the last flight with the lights on, looked great when the sun started going down, problem was most of the footage was of grass

Kiwi,
How do you personalize your links to you tube or anywhere else?
