Deli,

Yes, they are the same. If you buy a new wing you will have to cut out the ailerons yourself but its real easy. We have the 4-channel version, and it was a bit unstable for my son to learn on, so I cut off both wings and put back on with 7 degrees of dihedral. It will now fly hands off at most speeds.

I bought the 4 channel version. I haven't flown in a while, so I was going to freeze the ailerons, unplug the servo and fly 3 channel style to get back on bicycle (so to speak). I just wanted to make sure there was enough dihedral to be able to turn well using the rudder. I saw an earlier post where it said it turns quick with the rudder. I should be okay...

I have a video of my cessna at http://www.knvonline.com/files/cessna182s.wmv

It is nice looking airplane. You have to make the nose wheel steerable.

I just got a 4 ch. Cessna 182 yesterday, I was a little disapointed with the quality of it. I assembled it pretty easily. I went out to fly it and it worked not bad, I had it up in the air about 20 ft. Then I decided to turn it around, I used the ailerons and it started diving to the ground. I pulled it up but after that the thing was out of control. It ended up crashing and knocked the elevator out but no big deal I glued it back in that night. So I decided to take it out again today. The weather was pretty good and there was a light breeze so I thought everything would be ok. I hand launched it and it went up for a sec then turned right and hit the ground hard. I went and threw it again, it was flying but it wouldnt pull up. The foam elevator had broke down the middle and only one side of it was working. I fixed that with a toothpick, and glue. Later I flew it again, got it up and going pretty good this time, I started to make a turn with the ailerons and it dove to the ground again! It hit really hard and broke: the prop, the wing, the front wheel of landing gear was ripped right of and the nose of the plane was crunched inside the fusilage!!! I gutted the plane and the electronics in it are pretty good. I just bought a new body made out of pvc so it should be better than the foamy. Il give you the results of my new fuse in a bit.

Yeah, I did a similar thing with mine. First flight I got it up in the air OK but the controls were different from my other planes and I got confused, instead of up elevator I was actually cutting the throttle so she stalled and nosed into the ground at high speed. Bent prop shaft, smashed cowl, broken prop, broke the right wing off at the fuse and creased the rudder and elevator. I was suprised at how well it all glued back together though...

A bit of five minute epoxy fixed the wing and I braced the rudder and elevator with a very thin strip of gaffer tape from tip to tp and over the rudder tip. I also taped the cowl back together from the inside with gaffer tape reconstructing the 90% of the plastic pieces I managed to find and painted over the remaining missing parts with white glossy modelling paint which worked really well because they don't sell replacement cowls for this plane for some reason, you have to buy the entire fuse.

I managed to bend the prop shaft and adaptor back into shape and installed the spare prop. This time I spent a couple of hours on FMS flying the Cessna with the TX plugged into my computer, something I should have done originally, and got used to the new control configuration.

Finally I covered the plane's fuse and wing in clear packing tape to give it some added support and strength as the wing totally broke in two and I took her back out to the park. With my fingers crossed. I threw it up in the air and it took off well. This time the plane climbed with authority. After some minor trimming it was rock solid in the air, dead stable and flying like a dream. The clear packing tape has made it really shiny and a lot more realistic to look at, especially in the air, almost like it's covered in Monokote and it feels ten times stronger than it was before!!

Stick with it live2fly, this is a great little flyer when you get used to it. I only have the 3 channel version but I'll convert it over to 4 channel when I've got a few more hours up on it.

I really need to crash it a few more times so I can justify buying a new fuse, 4 ch wing and feathers, but while it still flies I'll leave it as it is....

Hey I love my ABC ...
Silly question do you work in the Film or Television industry ? my reason for asking is what you called the tape you have used { Gaffer }

Cheers

No, not TV and film, but I played in rock bands for years before I married (About ten years ago), I actually played the Belushi part in a Blues Brothers concept band and we were always using gaffer tape to secure microphone cables and so on. I guess old habits die hard!!

Hi,

I currently own / have learned on a 3CH Parkzone J3 Cub, and want to try something a little bigger with ailerons. Do you think that this Cessna is a good step up? They're all over eBay for less than $150.

Thanks,

Brian

I own both a Pakzone J-3 Cub and the Art-Tech Cessna 182 (both 3 channels) -- I enjoy flying both very much. The Cessna 182 is superior to the Parkzone Cub in quality, power and flying capabilities even though is less expensive. Much easier to fly and control. I'm considering upgrading to the 4 channel version (can't decide whether I convert it for about almost $100, or just purchase a new one for $180).
If you do get the Cessna, I recommend you purchase the li-pol battery -- lots of power and much longer flights.

Yo

Your best bet is to buy the 4 channel Cessna,or convert it to 4 channel(better idea). The reason why i am saying this is because with
ailerons the plane is more stable in the air with turns and fly's 50% better.I had the 3 channel Cessna for the reason that the 4 channel is not out in South Africa yet.And if i convert my money to $ it cost me round about 70$.Just remember to use a little bigger servo for the ailerons. And use clear packing tape to make the plane stronger.

Keep on flying

I just got my plane last week and flew it last night. I thought the plane flew GREAT. I went with the 4 channel/li poly version and performed only "yank and bank" turns with ailerons, a few high speed touch and goes, and actually flew inverted for the very first time..wow..what a feeling!!

I see this as becoming my main plane once I figure out the following problem.

I did find that the receiver (maybe) was very "glitchy" and the plane went into several turn dives. I was able to pull out of them but my nuts were in my throat as I was able to pull out just feet from the grass.

Not sure if I'm getting interference at the field I fly at or what. My other plane (loaded with hitec gear) flew fine so I'm thinking about getting an aftermarket receiver.

The question I have is, what is the least expensive, best receiver to get? Do I get the Fut/hitec compatible for this plane?

Thank you in advance.

Did you check the TX/RX before flying?

Go about 75 to 100 feet from the plane with the transmitter antenna in the collapsed position. You should be able to operate the controls and motor from that distance. If not, you have a range problem.

The only problem I notice with mine is that I can't point the antenna at the plane from far away. Motor stops and plane goes out of control. So, I keep my antenna parallel to the plane at all times, especially when plane is far away.
