i taught my cousin to fly on the 3 channel version and we did the maiden in about 10kt wind and it was basically hovering.

its flwon about 20 times since then without incident.

my cousin went from flight simulator straight to this plane and although we had the buddy box we didnt use it.
'
next was his brother..same deal.... flew no problems, two never before flying pilots getting to fly on this one plane.

i cant say anything bad about it really. We did get rid of the Rx so we could buddy on it though, but other than that all stock.

maybe longer flight time would be better.

Dunno why so many peeps have had issues, we ROG no problems, it flies just as predicted and has a nice glide and excellent 3channel characteristics.

i'd highly recommend it to anyone.

Just my 2c worth.

Tim.

i just got one of the 4ch planes. it seems like a pretty good plane. i couldnt take off from the dirt in the baseball field because there was too much drag....forget the grass....it just tips over....i tried hand launching....that was a disaster....so i just went somewhere else where there was tons of cement, it took off and flew great. more updates later....

Hey I noticed that Greg Covey has got his review of this plane up now. He gives it a pretty good wrap and there's some great video with the standard NiMh pack and with the Lithium upgrade pack too. Well worth a look and a great job Greg!!

Yes, the clear packing tape is the way to go if you are a beginner. I can attest to that since I busted up my first one on the first flight during take off. The wing broke in three pieces along with a big rip on the front of the fuselage.

The small added weight from the tape is not a problem.

I bought a new wing and fuselage and rebuilt the plane. This time I covered it with the clear tape. It protects it from water and dirt and it makes it shinny in addition to making it very strong. For the bottom of the wing I used the tape that comes with strings in it. This will keep the wing from folding on you if you pull off too hard from a dive. I also glued the broken wing and covered it with the tape.

I had lots of crashes while learning to fly and the plane held together great. Some ruined motors, bent propeller shafts, broken propellers, bent landing gears, etc., but the foam parts held up very good.

The back of the plane is another weak area that needs to be stregthened. The pieces of foam that hold the rudder in place, that is. Once I glued the rudder and stabilizer, I drove a toothpick through the top foam piece, through the stabilizer and through the bottom foam piece. Then cut the toothpick at both ends so that it can not be seen. The back end has never snapped off since I did that.

Again, if you are an experienced pilot, perhaps all these precautions may not be necessary.

Good luck and have fun learning!

Art-Tech Cessna 182 & packing tape approx weight increase.

1M strip(50mm wide) of clear packing tape weighs 2.5g.

Wing: five 1M strips for top, five 1M strips for bottom (I guess)

Body: Eight 1M strips (I guess)

Total weight of tape: 2.5 x 18 = 45

Cessna weighs 560g therefore adding tape increases total weight by 8%

I just wanted to put my 2 cents in. I've been reading this forum for a while and decided to buy the 4ch version on ebay, the price keeps getting cheaper. I bought mine for $139 including shipping. I was a bit skeptical at first but this plane sure proved me wrong. I ROG'd on a field of astroturf and it performed wonderfully, until I 'landed' at about a 45 degree angle. tore a hole in the bottom of the plane and bent the front landing gear. Once I got it home I was able to simply push the foam back out glue it and tape it, and bend the front landing gear. I was flying the very next day. I kept tipping over because of the front landing gear but it took off several times and survived a crash where I hit wing first. NO DAMAGE to the wing. My day ended when I crashed into a tackle dummy (practice football field) All the elecronics were ok and again almost no damge. I do make 2 recomendations for the plane
1) like everyone else has said tape the plane up with clear tape it REALLY helps if you're a beginner
2) glue the 'arming' button in place i've had several incidences where it has popped out. another option would be to screw it in place using a nut.

THIS IS A GREAT PLANE!

purchased this plane last weekend and I must say I like the look of it, just the fact that it veers left on taxi is worrying the hell out of me.

at first it was a poorly made left wheel but freeing that up has not totally cured the problem. hope to get this remedied for a maiden flight this coming Sunday, the weather forecast looks promising, just have to hope the high pressure system kicks in as strong as forecast

Make sure the tail and that rudder are completely straight and centered.
I took the pants off the wheels on mine to make sure they spin freely. That helps a lot.
I take off and land on grass, so the pants were a problem.

I bought the Cessna yesterday, and Im trying it tomorrow. I let you know how it goes. Ive had a few years experience in RC so Ill let you know what I think of it. I built the 3 chanel version, went together great. I just wanted something to throw in the car instead of the 20min assemble time and then fly ive got with most of my planes. The waco bipe ive got flies nice but its a pain to put together, and its a little to big to put in the car in one piece.

I crashed this crap a bunch of times. I'm now convinced the spinner adds additional weight that moves the CG too far forward. I rebuilt the plane without the cowl and without the spinner and it now flies like a mediocre plane. The stock 480 sucks in winds greater than 15 mph but I did manage to fly it. My friend and I take it up, one after the other, betting on which one of us will crash it. I won't miss it. I have a GWS estarter on order. I will fly this crap to failure with no compunction.

I do fly with the spinner off since it files better that way. However, I never fly in winds stronger than 10 mph.
The instructions recommend no winds stronger than 7 mph.
