Thanks for that cptkirk. I do have the art tech brushless speed controller. Would that help. I havent fitted it yet cos im waiting for the brushless motor and lipo's to arrive. Do you think it'l make a difference. I really love flying my cessna but cant afford a new radio system. I went online to have a look at prices. Maybe in a few months. Ive spent so much on this already. But Id hate to think i need a new radio system if im ever to enjoy the plane again.

I have this same problem with mine, I find that it only goes crazy when the throttle is on. If you know the battery is getting low (i.e. performance is degrading) then I land. But if you want to sqeeze every bit out of it, start watching carefully and as soon as you notice the twitching, cut the throttle, the twitching will stop immediately. Of course a dead stick landing is a challenge so I usually don't let it go that far if I can help it. Hope this helps.

Another question: I was wondering I have seem a wide array of chargers for LiPo batteries. What is the difference between the one that you plug into the wall that parkflyers sells or this one on E-bay: GWS Charger and the more expensive ones that you can get else where. I only need to charge a 2-cell 7.4V battery. I don't play to expand beyond that any time soon. Will that one at that link do me or do I still need the other fancy stuff?

I started my collection of LiPo's with that charger and I found that it worked very well. It will certainly do the job but it doesn't have any of the "bells & whistles" that the better chargers have. ie. no voltage read out, no variable charge rate etc. you just plug it in and hope for the best. If you're careful you'll have no problems. Don't forget to regularly check the battery temperature and disconnect it if it begins to get too hot. All the time I used this charger my 7.4 volt 2S packs never got hot, just slightly warm. Always charge your packs in a fire-proof container ie. an old clay cookie jar, pot, saucepan etc. I use a mortar & pestle (Minus the pestle) and never leave LiPo's charging un-attended!! (Golden Rule!!)

For it's size and price I found this to be a very good little charger for what it is. Just be careful and you'll be fine!!

I would get rid of the ESC and replace it with a good one if there is any twitching going on. I wouldn't fly until the probelm is fixed though purely because it is dangerous to you, your model and other people.

Don't know if you can use a brushless ESC with a brushed motor. Hopefully someone here can tell you and we would both learn something. Wait for your parts then match them up to be certain you have a good set of kit on board.

Personally I have no use for art-tech electronics as they are poorly documented and supported. I don't trust their ESC in particular as I think they simply cook themselves.

If your ground check shows any movement to control surfaces other than ones you input with the radio the problem is the same as I had. Solved all my problems. Smashing up a model is bad enough. Injure someone is even worse with an out of control model.

i realy cant see the point in putting a brushless in it, simply because the airframe cant handle it. i flew mine today, 2 loops, one barrel roll...coming out of a slight cock up the wing folded, diddent even realy push her. my advice? dont bother with the brushless and get the edge 540 made by art tech mines a total wreck now....ah well gotta see if i can get a replacement airframe free on warranty, anyone who wants pictures of whats left email me at pyromaniac_yeti@homail.co.uk

Yes I would have to agree with compound goose , I have done a few loops and have seen the wing flex quite badly so I will not be doing Aerobatics in this as I dont believe the airframe will handle it .

cheers

I have also purchased one of these planes, and have crashed it. Funny, I thought I would be upset, but to tell you the truth, I wasn't. I find it pretty fun to rebuild the plane. I am glueing the wing back together as I type. I went out and purchased some carbon rods. I was going to place the rod through the middle of the wing, but I have decided to place a single rod on top of the wing. The rod has a 3mm OD. I am placing it in that small trough near the front edge of the wing, see pic below. I doubt it will hurt the lift of the wing that much, but was wondering what you guys thought about it. The carbon rod is longer than the wing, but I am going to cut it to match that small trough. I am also making another trough on the bottom side as well for a 2nd rod. What do you guys think??

Don't worry, I crashed mine on it's maiden flight!! Snapped the wing off at the fuse and smashed the motor, cowling, prop, tail, prop shaft and adaptor. Glued the wing back on with epoxy resin, braced the tail, replaced the broken front bits and totally covered it with clear packing tape. It's flown perfectly ever since. Recently changed out the electronics and added a four channel wing (I only have the 3 channel version) but my old wing still works well as a spare.

I had the same problem with the wing folding.

I now use clear packing tape underneath the wing. The type of tape that comes with strings imbedded in it which makes it quite strong.
I no longer have any problems with regular or inverted loops, rolls, etc. It really makes the wing strong.

jmir can you help me on this one. im looking to get a new rx for my cessna . mine is on a 35 mhz crystal at the moment. everyone is telling me that parkflyers sell one with a 72mhz crystal. Do I not need two crystals. One for the rx and one for the tx? do both crystals not have to have identical frequencies? I know nothings about that end of thigs. I just see ads for rx's with one crystal supplied. But what about the tx crystal? what if its different to the rx crystal supplied with the new rx?

I'm no expert, but I assume you cannot put a 72mhz crystal on a transmitter designed for 35mhz. Likewise for a RX designed for 35mhz.

Take a look at www.awlhobbies.com and click on the "motors and ESC" section. At the end you will see an Art-Tech Radio set which includes TX, RX, and servos for around $60. Not a bad deal for the price. It's the radio that comes with the Edge 540T.

Also, a better inexpensive radio might be the Parkzone Typhoon radio. The TX sells for about $30 and the RX for about $26. I've converted my other planes to this set up. I now fly my Typhoon, J-3 Cub, Cessna 182, Edge 540T and Stryker 27B using this set up. So, I only need one TX when I go to the field with all my planes. It has reversible servos, HI/LO rates, and Mixing for V-tails or ailevons like the Stryker. Not a bad radio for the price. But, not as good as the computer radios that sell for around $150 to $200 (of course!)

If you were in the US I would gladly pack up my old Edge 540T Art-Tech TX/RX combo for just a few dollars. Have no idea what postage would be, but I'm sure you can buy above radios cheaper directly from vendors.

I do have the 72 mhz system on my edge so I was thinking if I get a 72 mhz reciever for my cessna, I coulod just use the edge tx. Its the same one as my cessna tx, just different frequencies. I was just looking on parkzone. Would you know if i can use this rx: (JR R700 FM Slimline Receiver) in the cessna as long as the crystals are the same. I mean would the servo's and esc work ok with it. I wish i knnew more about this lol
