ORIGINAL: irishflyer jmir can you help me on this one. im looking to get a new rx for my cessna . mine is on a 35 mhz crystal at the moment. everyone is telling me that parkflyers sell one with a 72mhz crystal. Do I not need two crystals. One for the rx and one for the tx? do both crystals not have to have identical frequencies? I know nothings about that end of thigs. I just see ads for rx's with one crystal supplied. But what about the tx crystal? what if its different to the rx crystal supplied with the new rx? I'm no expert, but I assume you cannot put a 72mhz crystal on a transmitter designed for 35mhz. Likewise for a RX designed for 35mhz. Take a look at www.awlhobbies.com and click on the "motors and ESC" section. At the end you will see an Art-Tech Radio set which includes TX, RX, and servos for around $60. Not a bad deal for the price. It's the radio that comes with the Edge 540T. Also, a better inexpensive radio might be the Parkzone Typhoon radio. The TX sells for about $30 and the RX for about $26. I've converted my other planes to this set up. I now fly my Typhoon, J-3 Cub, Cessna 182, Edge 540T and Stryker 27B using this set up. So, I only need one TX when I go to the field with all my planes. It has reversible servos, HI/LO rates, and Mixing for V-tails or ailevons like the Stryker. Not a bad radio for the price. But, not as good as the computer radios that sell for around $150 to $200 (of course!) If you were in the US I would gladly pack up my old Edge 540T Art-Tech TX/RX combo for just a few dollars. Have no idea what postage would be, but I'm sure you can buy above radios cheaper directly from vendors.
