What is the best method for installing pinned hinges into large control surfaces, with foam wings?
any insight would be 20/20

I use the GP Slot maching to cut the slots with. Then install the hinge with epoxy. If you want a little insurance, you can then drill a small hole through the control surface and hinge and epoxy in a round toothpick to lock the hinge in place.

Thanks, yes I agree the slot machine makes short work of it.
I'm putting together 29% AW edge, and the trailing edge of the wing wood material is only a 1/4" thick. Do I add extra material to the back of this before I glue it on? or will the epoxy be strong enough?
I ran a little quick test of my own. I glued one side of a hinge to a piece of 3/8" tristock with probond (polyurathane) let it set up. I can't pull it back out with out breaking the wood. that is with just half of the hinge being in the wood.
I'm just not sure about the 1/4" wood.
What do you think?
