Needed to turn the yellow spinner RED!!!! Nothing a "Little" Lustercote Missle Red couldn't fix...Buffed stock spinner with 0000 Steel Wool and then cleaned with 70% alcohol..let dry then shot with Lustercote...did a few light coats..I can easily hand start my OS .61 FX with a "chicken stick" so I am not worried about the paint coming off from an electric starter...

Next I will paint the cowling olive drab over the black anti glare and then add the yellow cowl band..I like to use either 3m mask off tape (blue one) or liquid mask...either of these two brands work well ,,just brush it on then allow it to dry overnite..then using a razor blade cut out the area to paint...prevents almost 99% of bleeding...works awesome on checkerboards....
It's great to see another Red Tail going together. The Tuskegee Airmmen played a very imprtant role in the U.S. success in WWII. I have had the pleasure of meeting many of these men and listening to their stories about the war and the way they were treated as soldiers. I have a great respect for them and the job that they did. It would have been easy for them to sit back and do nothing and no one would have cared because they were thought to be second class pilots. But they worked hard and proved to be some of the best pilots and mechanics the U.S. has ever seen. If you ever get a chance to meet one of the Tuskegee Airmen and listen to his story I am sure that you will not be disapointed.

Thanks Just Plane Nuts.....I am very appreciative to the TUSKEGEE Pilots,GroundCrew and all personnel who endured much discrimination and fought thru it to prevail and become a great part of WWII History, Today I have been busy... I finally glued the wing halves together check out that beefy center wing joiner..much improved over the one I had 3 yrs ago... this is my wing in traction... Last pic shows all the areas I "fuel Proofed" with 30 minute epoxy thinned 1/3 with alcohol...A must if you want your plane to last you more than a few seasons...Even if my tank leaks now (hope not) I know my planes wood won't be ruined...I fuel proof the belly pan too since nitro exhaust is diverted under my plane...I especially do the fuel compartment, firewall servo/radio area and wing saddle area....

While the fuel proofing was drying I painted the yellow band around the Cowling..Took several tries to get it right...My paint was bubbling on me and had to be resanded then repainted 3 times..3rd time I went to hobbytown and bought new paint..Guess what.,.,It worked perfectly fine...I quickly discarded my old paint... The next pic shows my new tailwheel from Sullivan Products..also found at my HobbyTown with a GP 1" tailwheel...the black unit on the left is the stock unit with the typical out of round tailwheel made from really soft foam and soft plastic hub..works ok but I prefer the Sullivan unit and it has 2 spring/music wires to have different amounts of "give" on the tailwheel/rudder...I took the liberty of painting it from white to RED!!!!!! It s the little things that make a difference!
