Hi everybody, I appreciate this being an on-road thread and my buggies are off-road but I hope you may be able to help me anyway.

I'm a total newbie to r/c cars and have just purchased direct from China three Winner sport 4wd off-road buggies (ready to run).
They look great but having done a little research I'm frightened of running them without a device called a fail-safe. I've learnt what this does and why but also it's drawbacks. I also read somewhere that a mechanical fail-safe is better and was wondering if anybody has done this and can let me know how. BTW, if such a dvice can be made I'll need some parts, specifically the arm from the servo because the manufacturers have seen fit to break off the unused half. So if anybody knows where I might get these in the UK I'd appreciate any feedback.

I was also sent crystals with what I assume to be different frquencies between the Rx and the Tx, having not run them yet I don't know if they'll work. The transmitter is two channel if that means anything.

Oh, one last thing, in case anybody is interested in purchasing one of these buggies I can pass on the company details.
I paid $537USD for three rtr models (including EMS shipping to the UK).

Any help anybody can offer would be greatly appreciated.

I am a noob too, I have heard of a electronic failsafe for rc cars that shuts them off or somthing if out of radio range or low battery. I havent read much about them, I dont have one yet myself but I havent heard of any draw back, have you? Now as fas as mechanical I really dont see how that is possible since a fail safe is there to cut off the engine when out of radio range, please exlain how they work if u know. The only mechanical fail safe I know of is take a really, really long string and attach one end to your car and the other end to a stake in the ground by you JK

The electronic fail-safe returns the engine to idle but apparently if reciever battery is low then it won't work. A mechanical one I guess would require the use of a spring or heavy elastic connected to the servo arm opposing the accelerator. Sorry for the delay, I was feeding the chameleons.

Oh I see... I would think that would be bad for the servo to have tension on it plus it would be straining against it when ever you try to accelerate. Wow man why did you get three off road ones, maybe you should have got on on road one lol

I got one each for my two sons and just had to have one for myself....you know how it is...and at ~£65 each they were cheap enough. The shipping was the expensive bit.
Re: servo, these buggies already have a sprung return on the servo for the brake disc. I'm planning on doing pretty much the same thing but from the opposite direction.

neat idea get back to us here about it when u finish the mod. Yeah you get things cheaper in the UK it sounds like, well that and the US $ is kinda weak right now. Like I said in a previous post my car was purchased for $180 including shipping, cant wait till it gets here. I bought mine from a Ebay seller in the US so shipping was way less that from Hong Kong. My shipping was like $20, and from Hong Kong it would have been $60-$70 for one car to be shipped not includding price of car.

Hey I found this site for you, its not in the UK I dont think but it advertises free shipping to the UK. http://www.goldstarstockists.com/tamiyaparts/tpx/bmi-smartech-winner.htm

Also I think somewhere in this thread someone said they sold smartech cars and they were in the UK, Another thing you might try is e bay UK version. Also google is usefull for finding smartech parts

BTW do you have aol instant messenger or yahoo instant messenger, just curious since it would be faster to comunicate, my messenger screen names are in my profile.

Thanks for the link, I already saw this site, the parts list is largely incomplete and they state that if it's not listed they don't have it and can't get it. Hmmmm.

Anyway....I don't use messenger although I do have it, I used it once and got masses of spyware so not used it for 4-5 yrs. I may have a look since I now have better resources for security.
