Hi,

I got a new irvine .53 engine. I did not run in yet. It is very very hard to turn the prop by hand. When piston is in the highest position it makes a sound too. Do you think it is normal. And do you think I should proceed with the breaking process. Can I use normal ( synto w/%10 nitro) carburant or I have to use carburant with castor oil.

Thanks for the inputs in advance.

Regards.

Zafer

It squeeks at top dead center? Thats.. GOOD! Don't keep turning it over around slowly, you might damage the liner with it. I wouldn't recommend breaking it in with a full-synthetic fuel. I would add some castor at least till it's broken in.

I ran mine three tanks on the ground, with a rich two-stroke setting. Then i tuned the lower end and started to fly with it, still leaving the top-end a little rich. After a couple of hours flying i tuned it for max performance.

Mine never ever deadsticked! It creates a lot of power. I'm very pleased with it

Zafer,

Like Alex wrote, this is a sign of a tapered-bore engine in good condition.

Please read and follow this thread about the correct break-in procedure.

Always use some Castor (Ricin) oil (8%+) with this type of engine and more during the break-in.

Here's a little trick: heat up the head of the engine with a hair dryer or heat gun so the piston doesn't stick at top dead center. I did that the first time I started it and it worked great.
