After a long honkin' time, my Vertigo is ready to go.

I still plan on adding a trim scheme to it, and adding "Vertigo" on one wing, and "Northrop Grumman" on the other.

That is excessively cool.

Please show and tell us more, and keep us informed on flight performance, as you proceed. ... Cool.

Nice work. I'm looking forward to reading about the flying. Movie clips would be even better ...

The vertigo is a foam and fiberglass construction. I am using an OS VX-DF that produces 2.5 HP. The plans state the plane should weigh between 9 and 10 pounds. Mine weighs 8. It has 3 gyros for pitch, roll & yaw control.

Should be fun... If your near SE South Dakota, come see it fly....

More pics....

I'm having a bit of a time finding where I can purchase this kit?

Thanks, and keep us up to date.

I built it from plans only. There is no kit. I think it was Model Airplane News that had the plans.

The construction, looking back now seems easy. I had never worked with foam before, and there are some different techniques obviously.

djastram,

Good job on the Vertigo. I built one about 4 years ago. I know it seems easy after you finished it, but I know the challanges that were involved.

A few things to watch out for.
Make sure you balance it lateraly because the weight of the nacell tilt motor and drive has a fairly significant effect.
It would be helpful if you had some helicopter experience. The gyros will make an initial correction on movement, but sometimes the motion is more than the gyros can correct for. Be prepared to be nimble on the sticks when hovering.
Don't make the transition from hover to foward flight with less than 10-15 ft of altitude. It looses some altitude before it accelerates enough to fly on the wing.
In foward flight, keep your banks less than 30 deg and be careful with elevator application when it is in a bank. Mine liked to snap if I got too steep with too much elevator. Keep you air speed up.
The first time you transition from foward flight to a hover, have plenty of altitude, because you will get an extreme nose up. Mine would do a loop before it stopped to hover.
Don't land on grass in foward flight unless it is very short, the front gear will snap off easier than you would think.

If I think of anything else, I'll post it here.
