I need to purchase my first "big" pack, but am unsure if 1650 NiMh (6v) would be sufficient for 5 Hitec HS5645MG servos and 1 standard. I have had some experience with NiCds in larger capacities, but I want to keep this model as light as possible. I would appreciate any input

Thanks,
Brian

stupidaso, 1650 nimh will be plenty for your application. I run a plane with 7 of the Hitec 5645 servos with the same battery and get plenty of flight time. I can usually get about 8, 10 minute flights with this setup before I recharge.

Have fun!

Great, thanks for the input.

The NiMh should be okay to charge at 120 mA/hr on a regular basis, right?

Thanks again

I am currently running (5) 5645's with a 1700mah NiCd on my CAP232 120. It's perfect. I can get about 5-6 flights before recharging. That's basically a days worth of flying for me.

Thank you for your input, Joe. Where do you get your batteries and servos ( I need one more), if you don't mind me asking. I want some high quality NiMh cells that will last. Is sanyo the standard or do you prefer another brand?

Thanks again
Brian

I buy my batteries at my local hobby shop, sometimes. My 1700 mah NiCd was from Servocity.com. Their prices are hard to beat. Anything over $100 is free shipping. They have NiMh too.

Another source of battery packs, try RadicalRC...

For your 1650mah Nimh, 120mA charge current will require 1650/120 x 1.6 = 22 hours of charging. Remember to do a forming charge before you use it, and at 120mA, that will be 22 hours of charging.

Sanyo is the best out there. Most good suppliers use them. Ask, or check the wesite before you order

that supply power is more than adequate depending on several things..do you fly all out??what is the surface area that the hitec's have to control..are you doing 3d???lighter is always better but make sure you dont skimp on the batteries..the fact you have five servo's is a consideration as well more servo's especially high performance and giant scale will drain a battery fairly fast.I use a 1100 mah for ignition system and a 2200 mah for flight pack..and I was told I should be using a 2400 but first I am not an allout full throttle flyer and the surfaces are that large .etc etc..and I am realizing that nickel hydride is the better way to go especially where weight is concerned.. I am curious though how many are going to li-poly batteries..they are awesome but you better pay close attention when charging as they dont withstand abuses like nicads..

I am using 1000mAh NICD pack for 5x HS5945 +1x HS300. Average of 5-6 intensive flights
10 min each drains 400mAh (8lbs model).

I think the 5645's draw more current than the coreless 5945's.

For the current consumption , your engine type (or stroke) and your engine mount type (anti vibration or not) also important. If you have more vibration your servo will eat more current.
