Great airplane, I spent all day today flying mine and can't say enough about how much I enjoy flying this model.

The best advice would be to go and read as much of this forum as you can, everything you need to know about the Edge is here somewhere. So go and get a cup of your favorite poison and sit down and read till your eyes get crossed and then come back for some more the next day!

But seriously....everything you need to know about the Edge is here and if you have questions just ask us, we'll help out.

Check this out too:

don't leave it over nite at a fly-in no matter how much security they have

and heres some tips for some one who isn't and idiot for doing the above

when you Mount the engine use layers of ply thats glued together to add space for the supplied mounting standoffs if you use a piece of solid wood in my experience compresses to much
2 when you glue the hinges use polyurethane glue like gorilla glue or pro bond

3 before you glue the stabs to the elevators mount the stabs and check the incidences just to make sure and it so much easier to check before you have the elevators on them

4 don't locktyte the bolts that go on your switches lol i did this and they will never come off ever
i had to drill the bolts off

5 i would use a 6 volt ignition battery with a 5.0 to 5.7 regulator on it any thing in that range will run the engine fine if the battery is 1200 mah it will run 4 time or more probably more if you want Li-on use a 2000 pack on ignition

6 use some method that allows you to adjust your pull pull cables with out taking anything apart
i used 2 ball joints extra and a 1.5 inch h9 titanium link but theres other pieces like ones sold by SWB instead of another ball joint

7 i would replace the tail wheel with some thing in the lite carbon fiber area mine broke at the joint it was still usable but had a short life left in it

8 don't force the servos in there bays trim the hole so they sit right in

9 although its all the way down here at 9 but its really important to use a good prop and not use sommin like a zinger even if they print the name pro first on the prop
i would use a mejlick 22x8 or a menz-s 22x8 then step up to a 22x10 for imac style flying or 23x8 or 24x8 for 3d style flying after break-in

ill post more as i remember them

FlatlandMike,

Let me know if you need another engine. I have a new, spare Brison 3.2 I would let go reasonable. Since yours was ripped, I would cut a deal. Send me a PM if you want to talk about it, since the offer is not for the masses.

Pat

The only problem is they may not have any edges in stock...they go that fast and may already be spoken for. i ordered mine back in july and still haven't gotten a call from tom, but since the crate was in LA on sept. 24th, i'm waiting by the phone. i don't know why, it's going to be may or june till i can get the engine and everything for it.

is it ok to use a 4.8v regulator with Li packs, Why do you choose 5 or 5.7 volt for ignition?

You do not need to get carried away with your batteries. I have been using an 1800 Mah 4.8v on the ignition and a 1800 Mah 6v on the receiver for a year now without the hint of a problem. I use the 6v on the reciever for speed and the rarest of chances that I would loose a cell during flight. Do your preflights and check your voltages. Much said above is right as regards the rudder pull-pull (what I used); the prop progession through break-in (what I used).

When you get it, just go fly the crap out of it. I do things with my Edge now I would never have even thought about trying before with my limited skill. This plane will not snap out on you and you have to practically make it stall; and it has a great glide ration for this size plane. Do yourself one final favor and get Tom's fiberglass landing gear.

It's done.

FWIW, they said they expected the shipment to arive today or tomarrow. They also said there should be plenty of 540s. The only disapointment was that my DA50 is out of stock and it will be several weeks before they get them in.

i choose 5.0 to to 5.7 is because the instruction for the da50 states not to fly when the voltage drops below 5.0 and i like the 6 volt because it will never drop below 5. volts unless its a second away from death also up to 5.7 wont hurt the ignition IMO so any thing in this range is within da specification

if you want any more of my thought proccess its here for the asking

I have to get a reciever, batteries and props.. No hurry as the DA-50 will be 2 weeks from today.. Approx of course.. I have flown 1/4 scale but not 28% and never more than an 6v 1100mah NiCd.. Looks like I need 2 2000 mah 6v NiMH's or something along that lines..?? I am reading a lot through this forum and edge540t.com and I'd rather do that and benefit from all of the other info then just come out and ask a question that I am sure you all have entertained a thousand times.. I am moving up from an Extremeflight Yak-54 with a YS-1.10.. My first gasser at last!! No more high fuel costs..
