    DMUCOP,

The OS 160FX will barely fit without cutting the cowl if you mount the engine at 8:30 and use 3/8" a spacer behind the prop. That is the most powerful engine I would use in this plane. It is smooth and good on fuel.

I would not use a twin on the plane. The cowl will have to be cut in two to get it over the cylinders with both cylinders sticking out.

Broke my Saito 150 in today! That baby was rocking and rolling. If anyone is mounting anything inside the cockpit be sure to glue it down good. Plane looks and feels awesome. How much weight is everyone ending up with. I am going to have to mount mine a little different. Is anyone putting the weight in the cowl?

Skypilot, thanks for the info. Inverted at 7 o'clock 1/4" to 3/8" back with spacer. Which muffler are you using? Stock or Slimline inverted pitts.

    Thanks,

    Gunny

    Not started it yet.

    Gunny11,

I am using a Enya 1.55 in my plane right now. I have a 160FX that I used to check the fit if I wanted to use that engine. If I went with the FX I would probably use a Macs header and a small canister from Aircraft International or make my own from 2" aluminum candle moulds and flat stock drilled for baffles. I purchased some fluxless rod for brazing aluminum and it works pretty well.

Just double checked. The engine needs to be mounted at 8:30, almost horizontal not vertical.

Yeah unfortunately the on board glow LED vibrated out, and the pilots cord came unglued from the cockpit. No big deal! I think that with some silicone the LED will be fixed, but the headset cord is no big deal.

OK, it flew. And quite nicely too.

OS 120, 12 lbs 10 ounces dry. Slow or fast, high or low and anything in between.

It does a really nice spin too.

    jimmyjoe,

Once you get that 150 broken in and the low speed needle adjusted properly your Saito will settle down nicely and become a gem of an engine. If you have already run a tank or two through it I would start closing the low speed needle a 1/4 turn or so for each tank you burn. Good luck!

I saw that Gunny II and Skypilot one both hade planes on using the OS160 twin. I have a Saito 182TD I am planning to use. It is just 2mm (0,080”) wider the OS but it has the carburettors on top of the engine. Is the cowl close to the top of the engine? Would there be a risk that I must cut a hole on top of the cowl to clear the carburettors?

    Best regards
    Thomas

    Thomas B.,

Please measure from the top of the carbs to the centerline of the engine and the from the prop driver to the front of the carbs. I will give you an answer. I am not using the 160FT, using Enya R1.55.
