Ok, here's the run down. I have a Creek Hobbies Giles 202 think a 160 FX in it. The plane weighs in at about 11.2 lbs. The problem I'm having is that the plans is hovering at near full throttle, maybe 90%, about 3 clicks from full, and pull out needless to say is very week. I've checked out every thing that i could think of, the carb goes full open at full stick, I don't have any expo in it that would mess with it, ect. here's the set up...

11.2 lbs giles
160 FX
18 X 6 zinger (not pro zinger)
stock muffler
10% power master
and it's tackin at about 8,100 RPM on a good day

Ok so i put 8,100 rpm with a zinger prop into a thrust calc. i got and it said i should be pullin about 19.5 lbs. Now if that's true then shouldn't i be hovering at about 60% stick? oh and i forgot to mention that i'm about 400ft above sea level. So do any of you guys kno wut's goin on and how i can get more power out of this motor? any info would be appreciated greatly.

Thanx,
Eric

Your rpm seems to be way down. Exactly how rich are you running this motor? It is possible to false peak this engine rich from my experience with it. You should be getting around 9000 rpm with a 18x6 prop on 10% fuel. There is a flat spot in the high speed needle response where you might accidently think is the peak but keep turning in and the rpm will increase greatly. Try this out and let me know the results. Also you might want to run some castor if you are using a full synthetic mix.

How was the engine broke in?

I can get that rpm with a Mejzlik 20X6 and 9200 on an APC 18X6 with 10% nitro.

I'll try puttin the needle in more, it does seem pretty far out. And I broke the engine in on the same 10% and 18 X 6 prop for about a gallon b4 goin in the air. Then i flew it calm until i'd gone throught about a gallon in the air. And then i started openin it up alittle and have been flyin it for about maybe anther gallons worth after that.

Eric,

Stock Zinger props are really sad. Get the pro, or the APC 18x6 and I think you'll see a lot of difference in performance.

The Zinger Pro spools up quicker, but the APC puts out more thrust.

Hi!
Try getting the Menz wooden props! Much better than ordinary Zinger props.

Ok, yesterday i tryed to run it leaner and it didn't work . It went from 8400 to 8490 then died. I tryed 3 times and figured it wasn't workin and i shouldnt hurt my engine by tryin to run it to lean. Thanx for the idea though. I'll try a new prop when i get the chance.

Thanx for every thing!,

You know that might not be enough prop. You might want to try the Zinger Pro 18-8. That RPM is kind of high. I just saw a post that said it can turn bigger props. The normal Zingers load the engine down way more than the Pro's due to the large paddles (on the normal ones). the Pro's are way better props IMO. I'd use a Pro 18-8.

Ya gotta be careful here ...... Just because you are making more RPM, doesn't mean that you are making more thrust . Don't get so hung up on RPM that you forget that Thrust is still the bottom line !

I get fantastic results with both Master Airscrew Scimitar 19x8 wood and the Top Flight Power Point 18x10 wood. ( much better than zingers ) I agree thrust is king not RPM. 160's can swing a big prop, an 18 x6 is just not enough wood....try the 19x8 and see for yourself.

Hi,
If the propchange is not enough then you would probably need another muffler which is less restrictive, or if you can remove any chambers in the stock muffler and test for your self. It would probably get louder but stronger too . A quiet tuned exhaust system would also raise your rpms a few hundreds more. Good luck/Amir
