Hi Harigo

Nice one, any more pics ?

Can't wait until mines at that stage.

What sort of detail have you added in the way of rivets etc. I've seen that aircraft appear in a few videos.

Cheers

Lee

I have some rivets and weathering but not that much. I think the grey could have been a bit bluer... otherwise quite happy with the finish. Funny how the insignia on the wing is on the right side rather than the standard left side... I double checked this and the picture I had showed it so... Do you think this is correct.

Off hand I would say your star n bar is on the wrong side. The plane belonged to the 56FG 61st FS and they had the traditional star n bar locations. The under wing could have two over size star and bars depending on which "ole cock" you model. You might check other sources for information. Could you post a picture of your image? If it's a photograph then it is what it is.. and that would be right. If its a rendering.. it might be in error.

Hi

I'll take a look at my video. Also consider at some point the image you have may have been flipped in a photo program giving you the star and bar apparently on the wrong wing.

Bit more on mine just now, decided to use the cover I made out of the carbon cloth as its a bit stronger. Trimmed it into place and it fits real nice. Also started on the woodwork then house the switches. Currently deciding on whether to make it removeable should I want to jig the postiions around or add other controls at any point. Hopefully be in place by tomorrow with the lid hinged ready for either magnets or a hidden catch.

Cheers

Hi

A little more done. Finished the framing up and the shot shows it dry fitted with a card base as a template. Next is to work out position of hinges, tac glue and trim the sides for clearance. That will be tomorrow now, got some bed time stories to read

Pleased with it so far, it;s worked out well.

Cheers

Lee

Many of the aircraft in the 56th had national isignia on left top and bottom of both wings. Here is a profile from AeroMaster decals:

I think you are right and I am wrong... I saw the bottom of the left wing with the insignia and assumed that the top would therefore be opposite side. did not realise that bottom was both sides. Damn... I think I will repaint it later

Hi,

Got the hatch squared away, kept the base loose so I can work on switch placement. Dry fitted the canopy for position which leads me onto the next task, make it slide !!! Hopefully get on that today.

I fitted the antenna last night. Simply drilled and tapped a ply bock with a 3mm thread. Drilled out the base of the antenna and slid a full length of threaded rod gluing it in place with 30 min epoxy leaving about 15m of thread showing. I used a full length of threaded rod to help strengthen the antenna. Looks pretty good, hopefully get it in one of the pics later on. Course as its threaded its removable for transport.

Also worked out gun placement with the help of Greg. Drew a small plan which I'll tidy up and post later for others to use as a guide. Need to make small jig to drill the gun barrels but more on that soon.

Lee,
Remember when you drill the holes, the barrels should be parallel to the ground, not the leading edge. I have seen a lot of "Jugs" done incorrectly.

Hi Terry

Yes, I was aware of that but thanks for the heads up. Need to work on a jig, just a simple setup to keep the wing parallel to the grounds when marking the holes, then another one to ensure I drill straight I'll update when I'm doing it.

Cheers

Lee
