This morning I got to fly my Wankel 30:

After it bieng NIB for a couple years, and after last night's carefull break in, I found out the following:

1-I ran an APC 11x4 prop, on 5% nitro fuel: the Wankel would hover my Magic 3D: Outstanding!!!
2- The plane has the smallest fuel tank: It flew for 12 mins on 8oz !!
3-The idle was very slow, the transition to full power seamless.
4-I could touch the engine with my hand just after landing.

The plane hit a power pole head on after the 4th flight,,,, the engine, snif, snif, is damaged...Anyone has one for sale?

Please le me know.

Be warned .. they run very hot. Serriously I would not consider putting it in a cowl of any type.
If you think about it - the fire is on all the time - it bangs 3 times per rev and that heat has to go somewhere ... finally if you go this route ... use castor based fuel (a) more stable under extream conditions and (2) It burns and will take some of the heat away.

I'm sorry. It Bangs 1x per Prop-Rev but 3 times per revolution of the triangular rotor. But it really runs very hot. If you Prop it down to below 14000 it should also run fine but with less Power.

I just built a top Flite Elder 40, ww1 monoplane for .40 - .46 engines, I put in a Wankel with 10x6 prop and i run 5% nitro it runs about 12,000 rpm idles beautifully and pulls it with ease, it's 5 - 7 pounds. cruising round at half throttle it's very economical, very smooth, it just feels strange when you turn it over by hand there's no compression yet it's so powerfull and responsive when it's running, I guess that's to do with the gearing of the rotor..
