I would think ours would not be as quick because of the longer wingspan,,,, but maybe I am looking at it the wrong way,, I would love to go up againest a smaller faster plane that would be a blast,,

Yo Stedman Dudes,

I may have missed it but what time should we target to get to your field on Sunday - in time for a practice flight or two?

Yo JCAC/FTOJL Dudes,

Would you like to meet somewhere to either form a caravan (that's "convoy" in trucker-talk) - or hopefully consolidate three or four of us in my van?

(I'll post this same message on our email group (I put it here too so that we might "capture" some others.)

Bender,

www.ncflyingtigers.org website has all the information you will need for schedules and directions.

Alas, I (Raymond, the best flyer, best builder, and most handsome, friendly, and humble person in the group) will not be there for August but just tell any of the combat guys that you know me and they will treat you royally (hoping in their own pathetic way to gain some favor in my eyes so that I will take it easy on them in future bouts - sad but true).

You will be able to recognize the combat guys quite easily as they will probably remind you of panhandlers and vagrants and the 'regular' people will be avoiding them - sad but true.

Bender,

Yep the Flying Tigers field is very nice. And yep there is the water to deal with. I had to retrieve an SSC model that was only out knee-deep. But one of the other guys had his really, really nice twin 2610 model out far enough that he had to swim for it. There is a lesson in there somewhere but it eludes me.

We try to start the first bout around 1:00. That gives guys enough time to play with new/repaired models, or just put up a test flight or two - and swap threats and tales of past triumphs.

Fayetteville R/C Fun fly is Sept. 11. Come on down for some no score SSC action. ARF Raffle, candy drops, BBQ plates.

Raymond et al, we have been resting on our laurels and backsides since we sent you home limping the last time. A little hair of the Dog perhaps?

Field located 2.5 miles east of Stedman on John Nunnery road off highway 24.

Scott,

I just got back from two weeks with our grandkids, etc so I haven't had a chance to acknowledge your information about the Sep 11 Flyin/SSC event. The bad news is that's the second Sunday and that's our regular scheduled date, which in September is at JCAC in Smithfield.

As for "sent you home limping" - harumph!

But seriously folks, we have had some renewed discussions about "scale" versus "open" type SSC models as a result of our flying with you guys (we have talked about this from our beginning three seasons ago). To make a long story short, I think those few of us who tried "open" SSC models eventually moved back to the "scalies".

Yes, the "open" .25 and .15 models fly faster and turn better than 2610 and non-scale SSC models. But I think I am safe in saying that every one of the Jordan Lake/ JCAC guys prefer the "look" of full-fuselage, scaler-looking models - even given the performance penalty. Actually, I think I am the only holdout who brings a second-hand Predator backup plane that refuses to die (I think the other guys just feel sorry for me and avoid getting near it when I run out of "real" models).

Anyway, I do acknowledge that one of you (I forget, and forgive, who) well and truly struck my SSC model in twain with a faster, and obviously stronger, "open" SSC model. In fact my repaired model now states, "Steadman 1, Raymond zero" on the fuselage.

So, thanks for the invite. I'll ask via our email group (with your permission) if they would prefer to be "humbled" by you Steadman-ers again - or keep to our (ab)normal schedule. But the miles between us is an issue for us just as it is fro you to visit us at JCAC/Smithfield.

Let me know if Its OK to extend your invitation to the Central Carolina Combat Consortium (aka Jordan Lake/JCAC/Smithfield streamer chasers).

Whew, more words than I intended when I sat down.

By all means extend a hearty invitation to all of your group and hope to see any and all.

Tried to make your August event but dropped my money, time and first born at NC State dorms instead. Momma cried and I cried but for wishing I was getting dropped off at the dorms instead of my son. Funnest time of my life.

I really liked the warbirds you all flew at Stedman. Looking for an excuse for another kit and Christmas is coming. What would you recommend for the warbird combat class .25 size?

Scott,

(On my first try I mis-typed your name and it came out Scoot. Hmmm Freudian slip?)...

Anyway, I sent an email to our group and we'll see what the response is to switching our venue from Smithfield to Steadman. I've not gotten any input yet.

I too cried when our first-born daughter left us and strode off to college and her life away from us. Part of my distress was fiscally related. Sniff.

My best flying 2610 model is JKA's TA-152. It and their P-47N (I believe) fit into the 2548 restrictions.

We'll be getting together to cut some foam in the next week or so. We did a lot of talking about the pros and cons of our current stable - and of course, what is on the horizon for future projects the last time we did this group-build activity. I'll survey the group and let you know what the consensus is.
