I agree, "Better to ask a stupid question than to make a stupid mistake".

All boiled down, the most annoying thing is the way people outside the hobby belittle the skill, engineering complexity, time and investment that RC involves. However, you have to just get in thier head for a second. Imagine you showed up at the flying field and I was standing there with a flat black 20cm sphere with a tiny prop on top. Would you ask "does that fly? Where did you get it? How much did it cost? How high/fast can it go?? Gotta cut those people some slack.

I do however think its rude to ask to try something. Who in thier right mind would assume they could do something properly with no experience, at the risk of someone elses property. Would you ask to fly my black sphere?

The after crash comments are the worse!

1 Well at least you was able to salvage a tire!
2 How come you didn't pull up?
3 How many hours did you spend building that?
4 Wait till I see your wife, and tell her how much this is going to cost you to replace!
5 What did you do that for?

im sure that when you guys first saw these things, you asked stupid questions too.

we come to these forums to ask questions, we get them answered and we learn something.

just like the other people who ask questions about our rc's, how are you gonna learn if you dont ask questions?

the most annoying things i hear-

1. "my uncle has a b-17"
2. "can i fly?.. i think i can do it"
3. "mines faster" (then they proceed totell meabout their airhogs peice of.... from target)
4. "does that fly?"
5. "do YOU know how to fly that?"
6. "you are really bad at flying that" (i guess knife-edge 3ft offthe ground is no longer considered a stunt)
7. "how huch did that cost?" ( i procede to tell them my 600$ price tag rtr, and then they tell me i got ripped)
8. "learn a mans sport"
9. " why dont u like doing more fun stuff?"
10. " i fly REAL planes, this is boring" ( i then explain why i know they dont fly real planes, and why rc is alot more convenient)
11. "you cant fly here" my response "nor can you have your dog here"
12. "that cant fly"- i then practice low-altitude runs on them till they leave
13. "those are easy to fly"
14. "look at the pretty toy" -my plane is by no means pretty, though it is a really really advanced technoligical toy-(i admit)
15. "Crash it!"
16. "thats not electric"
17. "i have one at home"
18. "can you teach me how to fly?" (and then tell me they wont buy their own plane)

and of course-

"That is soooo stupid"

There are a few things I find annoying with people in general.
1. Its sad to see people belittling other peoples countrys in this thread. If you dont like someones country goto a poltical web site and bash on each other. This is no the place for it.
I come here to laugh and learn about airplanes.
2. I dont think this is the place to put down people because of there age. I have seen people of every age say and do stupid things with there RC airplanes and helis.
Me included.
3. If someone asks a stupid question about my airplane or heli I try to inform in an educational manner of how the thing works. Who knows, maybe that will help them to get into our great hobby.
I know when I started in this hobby I asked stupid questions. Luckily the people at the flying field helped me and didnt treat me like I was a 21 yr old idiot.
4. When i read this thread i felt like some of the people thought they were smarter than other people because they owned an RC plane, boat , heli.
I for one dont feel that way. I feel fortunate to own several airplanes.

Well said dragonov3,

I read most of this just because I found it by accident and thought it was off beat enough to read. My two comments above are the dumbest things I've heard over and over again. But some things said just once in this thread beats them. I'm glad I don't have to fly with some of you guys.

All these comments about "childish toys" remind of the time when Consol/Computer games were emerging (about 10 years ago) and it was considered childish to play computer games.
Now, when computer games industry is bigger than Hollywood and games world cups are regularly organised its no longer a childish thing.

Mhale71, BasinBum,

Quit arguing. We Americans are just as superior as Australians, as superior as any country discovered and settled by Europeans.

airbatic.. if you have pased a history class in your life, you would know that australia was used by europe as a jail, any and all criminals were sent there to populate the country. Europe was founded on the greed of kings, queens, and empires. America was one of the few countries in this world that was founded for the sake of being free. Freedom is why other countries such as iraq/iran dispise us so much. Saying that one place is equal to another is not correct, as god stated (all men are created equal) we are not. America, though it has its problems is about the best place to live on the world. So far the only country that has a better system then america is japan, however, Japan is small, and weak, and their government was created by americans. Fighting againts different countries, ideas , and races is wrong, however saying that countries are better then others is a true statement(however it is nedless in RCU).

What's the deal with the lack of capitalization? Is that something people now consider cool, or didn't you guys make it through sixth grade English class? Talk about annoying!

germrb sometimes its annoying but your forgetting most post in a hurrey and very few use proper english puncuation (myself inc.)

as for the countries argument EVERY SINGLE coutry in the world has its problems and this arguement could go on for ever really, picking at little niggles ect. its silly, most people in 'the west' thinck there country is the best and thats natural, i think englands the best for example. That said i find visiting other countrys extremly interesting.
