So.. looks like Nomadio isn't the only one in the spread spectrum game.
Except this solution looks way cheaper.... and supposedly available soon.

The best thing is that I can just plug it into my Futaba 3PK

Not bad. But it wont be able to display return information like the Nomadio. Nomadio's radio will; thats one of the big draws on the sensor radio combo Nomadio coming up with. Not to mention programming flexibility that the Nomadio radio will have, this module might not have. I guess we will have to see.

Ahh..
U missed this bit
http://www.spektrumrc.com/DSM/Next/Default.html

I'm guessing it will be kind of ugly.. like an apentage stuck onto your existing radio.. but still.. it's an upgrade.. way cheaper than buying a new radio..
my current 3pk isn't even a year old :P

One other thing as to why this product is far more appealing than the nomadio

Looking over the design.. everything is menu driven..
so you want to adjust the trims.. off to the menu.

My 3PK contains direct assignable controls... and when you're racing.. or even bashing.. i'd rather spend more time piloting than scrolling through menus.

Maybe those nibs under the main buttons are dedicated trim controls. Don't know.

And.. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't have the coin to upgrade all my cars with Nomadio Receivers.. so it would be really conventient to have only ONE radio and swap out a module..

Really.. it comes down to $180 vs. $500+ to get me started.
That and the fact they charge for the SDK is annoying.

P.T.

Im in the same situation asfar as just buying a new radio. But im still very anxious to see what this technology has to offer,no matter what the form or type. Be it modules only or complete Radio systems i think this new band of radio transmitter technology is going to do alot for our hobby.

I agree.. I just think it's sad that companies like Futaba are JUST releasing Synthasized Modules and Synth radios (the 3PM-FS is finally available as the 3PM-TFS) which is at least 5 years behind the curve.
Even this technology really is already old news.

Can't wait to get mine. I have it pre-ordered at my LHS.

Tracer,
The Sensor has realtime trims just like Futaba and M8. We don't expect anyone to be scrolling through menus while racing. If all you want is freedom from crystals, then the Spektrum is a very nice solution if you already have an M8 or 3PK.

The Spektrum is a transitional product, intended to give people a "bolt-on" taste of the new technology without requiring them to buy a whole new radio system. We think it's great that Horizon has validated our efforts by doing this product. We can't wait to let racers and magazine reviewers compare the two products.

The Sensor system is a new digital two way RC controller that was built from the ground up using state of the art technology and ergonomics. It was built from scratch to maximize the speed and features offered by digital spread spectrum radios.

The SDK charge is really a support charge. Obviously we should give it away because it promotes our hardware but we have a lot of experience in this area and I can tell you that when people call up for support on their development project, they want answers. We couldn't give them anything if we make the SDK free. Also the SDK price tends to weed out the developers who are really serious about doing something.

We've already been asked about supporting open source development for the Sensor platform and we are likely to support that.

Where are the trims located? On the 3PK at any rate they're right beside the wheel which is rather conventient.

I agree with your statement.. if I was still using my old crappy radio I would seriously consider waiting for the nomadio then getting old techn now

Hmm. being someone who uses OSS all the time in both my personal and professional life, I would love to see Nomadio support OSS projects for the Nomadio platform.
But then I have to ask, won't these two ideas conflict?

hehehehe..
ya.. I didnd't think you guys were going to "die" due to the spektrum system. But I do forsee a lot of business lost due to it.
The same people who would dish out aprox. $500 (I'm thinking Canadian $$ here) for a radio, probably already has a $500 radio. Some will be willing to sell it and dish out that money again. Unfortunetly, I'm not one of them. It would probably be a few years before I see a "need" to upgrade.

I thank Nomadio for pushing the boundries of RC. And I also thank you Roy for posting your views in this thread. I really appreciate RC Business envolvment in the message boards of our growing community.
