spent some more time on it today. Had to take off the guide tubes as I could not get the baffle and dummy engine in. No biggie. Have now lined it all up, drilled where the hex driver will go through the baffle to do up the mounting screws. Also finished sanding the outside ready for priming.

Will prime the outside then panel line, rivets and other details before I fit the baffle in place for good.

Wont get a chance to squirt the cowl with primer till Sat so might make the antenna mast and do a few test with retracts.

Also have the inner gear door air rams to fit so have that job as well .

Lets see if these blasted photos will load now. Get your ct together RCU and fix the damn problem [>:]

Just completed the modification to the FIN/Rudder of my P47. I must repaint these areas then test fly. I hope it will solve my problem with the new shape and the additional hinges.
P51Tom
PS I am still getting a Server Error when I try to load photos.

needed to apply some more pink blade putty filler to the seam areas on the cowl as I was not happy with the finish. So need to let it harden overnight then I will sand and blend it in tomorrow night and see how it looks. Sometimes you can't see the imperfections till you hit it with primer.

been fiddling with inner gear doors this afternoon. Where I have the original ball joint is not going to work, the ram would need 38mm of travel and I simply can not get the correct geometry in that postion.

The dotted line with a cross each end show the original ball position and it's travel.

I did find a different offset hinge that has attachment points on it so can make that work. Just need to find one more of them now.

I may be looking at it wrong. With the hinge in the direction you are showing would make the cylinder end up in the wheel well. That would interfere with the wheel closing.
What am I looking at wrong here?

it will which is why I need to bring the hinge towards the outside a bit more. Cylinder will need to ba angled a bit but think I can make it work. Otherwise I need to make a system like on the SeaFury with a air ram driving a torque rod attached to two lever arms. Works well that systems but do not think I have the room in the fuz as it all sits on top of the wing.

Pete I was wondering are you able to put the air cylinder in front of the wheel? I haven't installed mine yet but it looks like it would need to be behind the wheel. Not scale but would work.

I will try to load photos of my rudder modification. If I am successful, I will take some photos of my inner doors which have worked very well. I used a bell crank to get the proper movement.

Not sure if I can squeeze the ram in there. Will have a fiddle when I get back in the mood.

picking up some new offset hinges from Dave tonight (ticketec)

Can then get stuck into those inner gear doors.

Still have the cowl to sand back where I put that filler on. As I hate sanding I keep igonoring it hoping it will be done by itself!!

Anyway back to it in the morning.

G'day Pete

Good to see the P47 build is progressing !

I have "extracted the digit" and done some more work on the Tempest with fitting the cowl and applying rivets and panel lines.
Now I just need to work out how I attache 3.5kg of lead to the front end !

cheers

Al.

yeah got motivated last few weeks but was lazy this weekend, too much footy to watch, real footy such as Rugby not that other AFL silly buggers stuff

3.5kg? Are you kiding me? Bloody hell mate. I would be sticking it around the rim of the cowl right where the spinner sits, silcon fishing weights in there which is what I did with the seafury. Forget how much I had to put in there, about 4 lbs from memory.

the P47 is going to need quite a bit up front as well I'm thinking though the cowl is heavy.

Will do some more when I get back from my work trip. Would like to get the inner gear doors sorted out so I can then do proper retract tests. I set one leg up on the bench just to verify the retract can move the leg with the heavy scale wheel on it and even using a standard robart valve it retracts very nicely, coming down is a bit savage but can live with that. Only care about them coming down every time and locking.

I'm hoping to start shooting colour this month as any longer and humidity will be too high and the paint will bloom. If that happens then it gets set aside till after easter next year.

Yep it needs ****e loads of ballast...............with a few build threads I have looked at most needed around 6-7 lbs and as I have the elevator servos on the horizontal stab (plus I build heavy) I need a bit more ! ..............hence why the flying weight is around 45 lbs
3.5 kg is a fare bit to hang off the cowl so I'l going to use stand offs around the front of the engine and mount to the firewall.

p51tom, what size cylinder are you using on the inner gear doors? That really looks neat and like it would work good. Do you use a sequencer are something on these doors to get the timing right?
