I'm Helping a friend Cover his TF Cessna. Thats a nice plane.

I'm thinking about geting a new Engine for the Jug for my next winter project. I would probably feel like flying it more if I trusted the Engine. Ive been thinking about a DA-85 with a fourblade prop. Only thing that kept me from it is that I don't want to make a new Exhaust. May end up with a G-62. I think my Exhaust will fit on it. I'm still in the same moode that I've been in for the last two years. Just thinking about it. LOL.

How about the new DA60, should be heaps  unless  you  specifically want a 4 blade prop
Just thoughts, i hear good things about that motor .

I personally do not like the DA85 ,  it seems to have a harsh noise  and does not sound right somhow ,
could be fine apart from that

I have seen the DA-85 in a couple of models, seems that they overprop it and it gets bogged down outside of it's correct power/torque curves. I have one to go in the Tempest if I ever get to build that.

DA-60 would be a good option. Da-50 puts out as much grunt as a G62 so the new 60 should really get it moving.

I have a DA-60 in My Extra. It's got way more power then a G-62. There's no comparison. The problem with the 60 is it's to light for my plane. I'd have to ad another pund and a half of led to make up for the difference. On the other hand the 85 is just the right weight and it does have the grunt to pull a 24in 4 blade prop.

decisions, decisions, decisions!!

I do think 85cc is way too much for one of these. My DA-50 I think is too much. Will be interesting to see how much lead mine requires to balance. The cowl is quite heavy though.

hopefully my back will allow me to do a bit down in the workshop tonight. Been distracted playing Command & Conquer Red alert 3 on the PC lately

I just picked up a Top Flite P47 ARF today to take to the Cobram Air Races in June. Because the races limit you to 63cc, I'm planning to use the MVVS 58cc but swap it for an 80cc with a built in starter after the races.
The 80 ought to get it going well.

Pete, I have that crankshaft for your mate at my place now

Ari,
what do you reccomend to replace a SuperTigre ST25 25cc Glow in the MVVS range? Must be front carb. I was looking at a Moki 35cc Gas. It is going in my 82" P51

Pete, the new 30cc might be your best bet. Isn't the beam mount the same width at your ST?

Hey Ari. Does the 58 have one of tose 11V ignitions like the 116? I know the MVVS is a good engine.

Hi Tom,

The 58 comes with ICU-L or ICU-S, depending on model. These work on a minimum of 6.5V. I normally use 2 cell A123 batteries for them

Chris, nice build and that Jug looks really sweet in the air with the smoke. You have the same set up as I have in tended to use. One question I have is did the carb. have enough room or did you do any mods. on the cowl. I have my engine mounted and it really looks close. Your color scheme it great.

Have found 2 airleaks in my seafury fuselage, one was on the valve itself. I have some of the spare nipple blanked off and one of these was leaking. Other leak was the nipple on the tail wheel cylinder. Looks like the goop Darryl uses had let go. I tried locktite, no good, then a think smear of silicon sealant on the threads of the nipple. That seems to have cured it.

Letting it sit for a hour to see if it hold pressure. If it does I wil then test out the wing to make sure it is fine as well.

Attached a pic so you can see the leak, if you look closely you will see the soap bubbles around the nipple.

Then to rebalance and re-tune the engine, it is abit lean in the air so might have to slightly richen the top end a tad.

Will next go over the mustang for airleaks as I am sure some of the cylinders and blowing back past the O rings causing the valve to bleed air.

Fun!!

Good you found them, had a similar problem when I built the Corsair and I found the best thing was the coller that threads over the tubing once in place, so have used them ever sence, I think they are made by dubro, or robart

Hi Chris

Where did you put your smoke tank? could you take a couple of pics of the inside to have an idea of the layout?
Thanks!!!

Hi Tom
Yes I will be going to Toledo. I am not sure what day yet, it depends on work and such.
I don't like Friday after work, too much in a rush, and neither Saturday, everyone and their sister is there.
I always favor Sunday since the vendors and swap meet tables are more prone to give deals and there is always half of the people around.
I'll let you know as I get close to the date.

The carb fit with about 1/8 inch to spare.  I cut a 3/4 inch hole in the cowl for it to breathe.  Works great!

Fabio, I used a 32 ounce B&B tank for the primary fuel tank and strapped a B&B 16 ounce tank on top of the 32.  I built a tray that slides into toungue and groove in the firewall and anchored with screws at teh aft end.  It was a perfect fit behind the firewall.  Touble is, you can't get anything from B&B since Dick's passing.  I am certain there are other substitutes out there that will work however since there is plently of room up front on the kit built version.  I will try and find a picture.
