Bob,
sorry to hear that mate. You need some of Tom's good Hungarian wine to keep you well fortified!

Now if I could get my dispute with hobby king over the crap power supply I bought from them sorted I'd be much happier. What a crap company to deal with !! Crap products and even crappier service. grrrrrr

I've been trying to read through this whole thread (that's become a hobby itself), so I apologize.... but I hope you don't mind if I just ask a couple of direct questions to you guys experienced with this plane:

at this date what is the best option for retracts? would it have to be air or are there mechanical or servoless e-tract options out there?

What is an acheivable all up weight? I have a mindset of building light and that will be hard to break. my typical 50cc aerobic set-up is a DLE-55, single A123 battery, no regulators, ignition battery eliminator and small fuel tank.

Have I read that this plane builds tail heavy with the DLE-55 engine? how much nose weight would be needed? could this be acheived by shifting weight forward without adding dead weight?

I would order the ARC version so that I may add my own color and markings. My goal would be to compete at the 2013 AMA Nationals in Fun Scale only so I would not really be looking to do expert scale detailing. I have competed in aerobatics for years, but I am ready to tone it down a bit and find something more relaxing.

Thank you ahead of time for your input.

well mate this thread has become almost a lifestyle in itself, people come and go, planes get built, flown, children are born, raised, marriages formed and ended.

Retracts if you want to go standard and build light and simple just for the robart air ones, DLE55 etc up front , some nose weight required, dunnohow much as I'm not at that stage after 8 years!

If you go as per the book 24 lbs can be done, mine will be about 32 - perhaps

All the best

My 2 pennys worth/ I have not seen the ARC but if they used the kit profiles and hinge lines at best a fun scale but with a little bashing it could be a good competter in that clas. Lke Pete said a DLE-55 and up, my choice would be a G-85, that would make it abut a 3/4 throtle bird. But I think I would go with the new Robart electric gear. Air system can be a real **** if yo get leaks could drive you to some of Tom's Hungarian wine hehe

Hey Hubb. I didn't know you liked Scale. For those that don't know him. He's an awesome IMAC Pilot and and even better indoor foamy pilot. He is also an Excellent Judge at IMAC events and the XFC.
That intro will cost you 2 beers at the Burn It Challenge. LOL

The great thing about this plane is it's flying characteristics. My friend Howard has one that weighs 24.5 and mine weighs around 32lb. Weighed with the same scale. They both fly great. So you can do whatever you feel like to it and not worry about the way it flies. You will have to pay attention to the way you build it. You'll do better to build the tail light. Altho on the ARC that won't be an option or a problem. they are designed differently then the kit. The air tank is already moved in front of the cockpit if you decide to go air. I have Robart Air Retracts and they work great. You can't go Wrong With Sierras either. If I were to build another one I would be tempted to try the electric Robarts for simplicity and I think they would be lighter. With your IMAC Electronics you may still have to ad some nose weight but I think it would be a great set up. I learned a lot about electronics since I started my P-47. I would go with the set up you have suggested. No need for Expensive servos. 5645s do a great job all the way around. There are not much throws to the flying surfs.

That's my two rusty pennies worth. LOL.

Do your build here. We'll help to keep you confused.

Do I sense a P47 standing on it's tail rotating around it's axis?

You got to watch them Huns. Per sortie they had more kills then the Germans.

Thank you Mr Seres, you have yourself a deal

...and yes, I am ready to try my hand at other disciplines - Scale NATS in particular. my favorite are WWII era Warbirds. Unfortunatly I am not the greatest builder, so this will be a project that I will share with my father. I decided we should try the ARC version with film covering that I can add my own squadrin scheme, personal touches and airbrush detials to. This, just to get in the air more quickly, I am most interested in the flying portion of scale. I will be ready for a break from aerobatics after CC is over.

I got my interest in this plane after getting my Foamy / Electric jug this spring. however this plane is too small to be flown at Giant Scale events and just would not handle the wind well enough to consider flying it at Muncie

lets see if it will attach....

could I suggest watching full size warbirds at airshows to get a feel for how a warbird is flown? A warbird is a totaly different beast to an IMAC machine.

yes! I made a special trip to the Indianapolis Airshow this summer JUST to watch the full scale P-47 fly and study it. I have totally been bitten by the Warbird bug as you can see

I had the oportuntiy to get up close and personal with Hun Hunter XVI. I would like to apply this scheme to this 50cc since I have lots of reference pictures of the Full Scale

If you want to model "Hun Hunter" and you mentioned only doing a film finish, why not just by the Hangar 9 P-47. It is not much different to the Top Flite in size and comes out of the box with the color scheme that you want. There are a couple of build threads here about that model.

I'll have a good talk with Hubb in a couple of weeks. I'll talk him into a glass finish by the time the weekend is over. He's a pretty talented guy who I think would like to do his own finishing. He's definitely capable.

glass is very doable though simple is always good. Get it in the air, thrash it and have fun. Build a detailed one alongside.

What's happened to this thread? Are you still out there Pete? I don't think I have ever had to go back 5 pages to find this thread.

How bout some motivational material for all you Bolt lovers out there. I found this video on You Tube that you all should love, but I gotta rub in the fact that I was there when this video was taken.............

yeah mate I'm still here, been very crook last week, only just back to work yesterday. Nasty year for bugs.

47 wing is on the bench so I can reinforce the final gear mount then it is ready to paint. Just been slack and unmotivated.

Thanks for the video link, some nice 47s. Would love to see a gathering like that here.

cheers
Peter

Hey Pete,

I know what you mean about nasty bugs, I am just getting over a nose infection that saw my whole face swell up to the point I could barely open my eyes. I am sure the wife was flogging me with a baseball bat while I was sleeping!
Hope you are feeling better soon.......

hahaha that is funny, maybe she was. "What do you mean I can't have a new handbag . . . "

Sounds nasty, this thing has my head feeling like it is in a vice and my lungs are so congested they burn and I am on a puffer to clear them. I'm sure it is all the illegals coming in with their sandbox bugs

I'm slowly getting well. Spening weekend up Sunshine coast on the beach with my girly so some sun, and beach will get me right. Have mon - Wed off next week and will get the tiggy out for a fly. trying to talk Ron into bringing his Puss Moth out too so we can have a De Hav day of flying.

He has a major departure with his Neiuport and is heavily into his rebuild, coming along nicely, I have been applying the necessary nagging to him to get him moving along lol!! He will then be back on his 1/4 Mick Reeves Spitfire.

Man. Remind me to tay out of Oz for a few weeks. That sounds serious. You guys hurry up and get well.

Went over Eugene's to start up his new DLE-55 that he put on the Jug. It's the first engine that I ever had kick back. Caught my finger tip. Hurts like Bloody H3ll. Put the starter to it tweaked the needles a little. That thing runs great. Maybe we can fly it tomorrow. If we do I'll have some more pictures of "Daddy Wabbit" and maybe a vid.

Here is proof that Eugene is still young enough to bend over and hit the nail on the head.

G'Day Old Tom.
All those bad bugs are up in the northern part of Oz mate. The real southern parts (were men are men and the shelias are glad they are) are bug free, too cold for them.

Regards.
Bill
