Have you run the numbers on wing loading? as big as it looks it should be just a rock solid flyer

and another Alberte clipper comming thru sunday evening and monday then they ( you know about they ) then it is to warm up hope into the upper 40 deg range by w/e so I can do the primming

Got the reciver thing figured out, will try to post a pic later

Will meet up with the G/kids tomarrow after they heve done the same to there parents

Bob,
nope have not crunched the numbers yet, probably should do. However as I used the bathroom scales with the point of the spinner resting on them I am woondering if this is going to be inaccurate as not enough surface area.

Will weight it again but with me on the scales holding the model. That should be a lot more accurate.

ok did some crunching.

Based on AUP of 42 lbs it comes out to 53.76 oz./ft^2

The TF GS P47 @ 22lbs (yeah right) is 38. oz/ft^2 Now at a realistic weight of say 30lbs it is 52.08 oz/ft^2 so quite similar.

Now I have no idea what a suitable wing loading for this bird would be but it does seem highish to me. But as you say Bob it will be rock solid in the air. Just need to keep power on for landings.

Went out to the field with the P51D today, bit of a cross wind, take off was fine but had about 30 - 50% rudder on most of the roll. Landing was ok, crabbed it into the wind using rudder and ailerons to keep level then touched it gently down and kicked her straight with rudder, looked quite nice in fact.

Anyway mate hope that snow melts soon and the alberta clipper gets stuck in the rockies or some place suitable so you can get some work done on your 47.

cheers
Peter

spent about 3 hours this arvo wet sanding the P47 - yes you read correctly P~~~

Anyway have it all rubbed back, found a couple of little spots that need attention so a bit of filler in those. Rub those back in the morning then will give it another couple of coats of primer.

Will see how it looks then, if ok a light wet sand with 600 grit and onto marking out panel lines, raised panels etc. that will take me just about all day I think.

Hi

Thought that I would show what I ve done within the past few weeks . The two inner formers are to add support for the gas tank and to add reinforcement to the masive beast that will be at the bussness end of this ship . The throudle linkage is in there permanatly , so everything was checked , rechecked and checked again , and when all that was finished , rechecked one more time with the engine installed

P47: still filling then sanding back so no priming today. Will have to postpone to next saturday.

Painfull process

To console myself I setup most of the Sea Fury throws, need to do final adjustment on elevators, flaps and ailerons as I did not fit the wing. Rudder is super responsive so may have to tame that down a little.

When I get the H9 digital meter I will do the other throws.

Hi
Donk ( thats a stange name for it )

Funny you should ask that , we were checking it last night . What we found out was not in ourer faver at all . the cowl comes from FiberGlass Specialties When we recieved the cowl we were very impressed . But now that the fuss is built and the engine is istalled , its a totally differrent story 1) its length isn the same 2) diameter isn t the same 3 ) its not length isn t the same 4) the plug that goes in the center of the mould is not centered , which makes the front of the cowl out of round , its very noticible We will be contacting FiberGlass Specialties to-morrow and point out the situation , I hope they can help .

As to answer youer question , yes it does fit , if the cowl was up to specs . The left side were the engine is offset is very , very close . Until we get it fitted , we will find out than

Mickel

I have to ask, which cowl did you get the one with open cowl flaps or the original with closed?? I noticed the out of roundness on my orignal build but not in the cowel with the open flaps. good luck with F/G specilties,I have had nothing but great dealings with them over the last 10 or so years.

As for donk best you can do is go back in the first pages of the thread and look up OZ-101 and even with that you most likly wont get it right but it will keep you smiling

Pete

I've got the same cowl........it too was shorter than the orginal but everything else was fine. My builder adjusted the spacing of the motor to fit the cowl when he built it.
