Finaly got to do a bit of priming frist coat on all control surfaces As you know been trying to save weight it turns out that m/bloon and acrilicI brushed on realy did a nice job of filling the weve and was vary lite, now the latex primeris also lite.example rudder ready to prime was 58 grams, after priming and alowing to dry over nite it is now at 58.3 and I still Have to sand .

The big negitive with the latex/acylic primer is the dry time, even in the shop @ 60 deg's it looks like at least 72 hrs

Those are the Sierra Giant retracts for 1/6th scale. They are a 1 inch longer than the Robart, adjustable strenght on the spring and 5/8th struts. They also are 88 degrees, more scale than the robart.

All I've been doing is sanding

all the control surfaces and hatches are ready for primer

I've glassed the wing and just need to sand and fill the blemishes.

I've started the glassing on the fuse with the tailfeathers first.

Hi

I am posting a few picture of our build to possibly get some thoughts .
1) engine installed on fussaloge
2) panel switch compartment that will be covered with a hatch
3) norm did the cockpit , he did an excellent job
4) this is a picture of the tray that we will be useing for the batterys or any other ellectronics . We are afraid the the aircraft will be nose heavy . And Nomand doesn t want to add dead weight . So , if it comes out nose heavy , we will just add weight to the tail section , and the tray that you see in the center of the fussaloge will hold all the weight that we would normaly put in the aircraft . It was Normands idea , my design ( I like it ) .

Hi Michel

What does your engine amuffter weigh?? my G-62 +bell Mount, spring starter muffler and and 3/8 5ply mount plate is right at 6/3/4 lbs and I don't think that will be enough. but I have not but my bird together and checked the balance as yet.

In outher threads I have sean ware they have had to add more than a pound.

Hope this helps

Hi Bob

The exhaust system is a Keleo creation , it is very , very light . The engine is 99oz or 6LBS . Normand told me about other people adding weight to there build . We are just as curious as you are about that . We are hopeing for the best , but preparing for the worst .

keep it up bob, you will soon overhaul me!

good news is that the Sea Fury is basically done which means I will then be back on the P47 full time.

Sea Fury stats

Weigh in 42lbs

CG - in center of range

Incidence - horizontal stab +1.5 degree
Incidence - wing inboard +3.5 degrees
Washout at tips -2.5 degrees

this is as per plans and no warping at all which was very pleasing, it should be a nice flying model. Control throws are all set up with exception of elevator, as I am using a JR matchbox to control the 2 servos I set it up but forgot to save the setting by turning the dial past 9 to zero.

Flaps are all set up and work off the RHS slider control on the JR 9XII, first dentent gives 20 degrees, full gives about 60 degrees.

just need to fit the Z kill electronic kill swith now which arrived yestered courtesy of rt3232

have not had a chance to sand the filler I applied to the fillet, was one of those weekends

i somehow do not think that tray is going to see any service. For mine I'd be cutting it out now while you can to save tail weight, leaving it in will mean about an addtional 1/2 pound of lead required up front.

these things build tail heavy at the best of times and your engine system is considerably lighter then say a G62 or a DA-50. With those engines most people are still adding lead to the nose.

In reference to the accessory tray,

The engine will be 7.5 lbs total including the muffler ring. this is 1.5 bls extra. The accessory tray is made in advance and optional and will hold with plastic screws if needed to slide on batterys or glow drivers to a correct balance position. The cowl used is the "Fiberglass Specialties" and although it looks good, the dimensions are inferior to the TF original cowl dimensions on the plan and is 1/2 inch short on the right side and 1.0 inch on the left side...wrong side. We needed to cheat on the lenght of the Fuselage to compensate and elongate the fuselage to respect the plans. We will post pictures of this correction later.

Unfortunately using that engine the valve covers will show on top and on both sides of the cowl. We intend to paint them the same color as the cowl to mask and minimize the effect of the protruding valve covers...and it is really no big deal since most planes have something sticking out...I did the same on my TF B-25 ARF anf the result is not so bad, I include a picture

This is deceiving from Fiberglass Specialties, after reporting the problem they "ignored it" by saying some modelers reposition their engine...and I should do the same. I guess they simply don't care, and they offered to return it at my cost...not impressive.

Nevertheless this build is fun and we expect the plane not to exceed more than 1.5 lbs the recommended 22 lbs. for a max of 23.5 lbs.

The Sierra Giant landing gears are the same weight as the Robart and far much sturdy including accessories for gear door attachment and swing rod attachement for upper gear door. The advantage with the Sierra's is they will enable us to install the gear attachment to the wing closer to the main spar and position them in an angle for the wheel to be as forward as possible when deployed and reach more to the center of the wing when closed and hopefully get that extra 3/16th to install scale gear doors. We also have the option of longer struts up to 1.1.inch. The spring is adjustable for proper suspension and enable for higher tension when needed. And they are 88 degrees. I understand Peter when he says he wish he went with the Sierras, my first time and they are now minimum standard for me.

We will be using the paint scheme of the 60 size.
