Ouch.......I laid a bunch of CF cloth in the gear areas to beef it up.

Well I finished painting on my P-47. I ended using the nelson paints with lusterkote for the aluminum. This is my first using air gun and air brush. Lets see if I can get the images on here.[image][/image]

I feel like a complete dumba** for tearing the gear out. Had another look and it is not as bad as it looks. Repair the gear rails, and it will be good to go. Still feel like crap about the whole thing, but thats all part of it

Craig, thats a bummer about the gear. The mounts in mine have worked well. They are hard maple And I don't remember if the material was in the kit or I used some of my stuff. I had mentioned to you that after at least a hundred landings I heard a little clattering as I taxied back so inspected the gear (way overdue). Found the inboard blocks on both gears broken loose, but the outboard blocks were doing all the work. The gear stayed in place. All the screws were still in place. This area is certainly a weak spot in the design that can use some beefing up. DWR.

Not bad for your first time. Practice on some cardboard to see if you can get rid of the hard lines on the camo and it will look even better next time.

Craig,
Thanks for the pics. They are really helpful to me as I am just now beginning that phase of constuction. I see some serious glass and reinforcing to be done on mine. I'm not known for my flawless landings. I can usually count on atleast 3 touch an goes on each landing. I was surprised at how much shimming I had to do on the gear mounts to get'em to lock in the retracted position with that big Dubro 5" tire and wheel. I'll post some pics once she gets a little further along.

DANG! I LOVE THIS HOBBY.....................................................................CAPTAIN RON.

Now I am thinking of my best options for repair work. I think the main reason the pulled out was from some sideways motion at the time of touchdown.
Any ideas, on my best approach? I know there are several options. The plywood ribs, outboard are good, the hardwood rail seperated. The inboard area is the concern, due to the opening required for the air cylinder.
Send me your ideas, I know there are several techniques that I can use, and I want to make sure this is the only time I do this.

Land like Bob and you won't have a problem. Just stay away from the gap in the trees.

Thanks for the tip Al, but that won't help me right now

Hows the jet coming along, and yes I am aware of the gap in the trees, it just jumps out and grabs Warbirds
