Lookin good

For a commercil spinner the base looks like crap, any posablity to have a local one turned on a good lathe ?? might be cheeper and quicker than a new one unless they are a stock item.

only $58 USD for a whole new one so easier and cheaper that way, local blokes here who do that work charge an arm and a leg!

Gday Bob,

no worries and good oh is right hehe.

The spinner I ordered is the Vailly one one, old one was vailly as well but the new one is a totally new design, guessing he had a few complaints about it . . .

Hope it arrives soon as I can't test flight it till I have it refitted.

Have you done any balancing on spinners?

cheers
Peter

Never had one that big, and no, But with a du-bro balance unit per the instructions it is not to dificult if they are stright to start with, I have never checked the tru-turn 3" that I have, So I realy can't help much.

Bob,
was going to try the Dubro true turn unit with it.

bonzer, bewdy!

frustrating day at the field yesterday, could not get the OS FS-91 in the astrohog to idle properly, it kept dying after about 20 secs. Swapped plug, reset tappets, pulled tank and replaced all the tubing, pulled the carb apart and cleaned it out.

Out of desperation we put in another batch of fuel from the guy who was helping me. Voilla! Problem solved. I either have crappy nitro or my methanol is bad. Will mix up a small batch tonight without nitro and run that, it it runs alright then it is the nitro, otherwise I have to toss about 30 lites of methanol!!

Bugger!

cheers
Peter

Pete

Never mixed glow fuel, I have had it go bad thow, and that methanol has got to be big $$$, Our club buys from our LHS a bulk order in early spring about every outher year, and sence my shop has no way for ultravilot to get to it I just wrap the cap seal with about 3 turns of a good plastic tape and that has been good for me.

After getting the programing sorted out for the flaps on the corsair, it seams I need a way to to set individual servo end points, so I asked the question over on the corsair thread and one of the guys suggest a futaba match box, and the dummy has never seen/hard of one, looked up the spec's, and from what I read it will let me do what I need, and when it comes time to set up the 47 I will look vary close there also.

Got my silver paint for the 47 but weather has gone in the dumper ao no chance to even do a sample test.

Catch you later

Bob,

the main problem we have here is from the humidity in the air as methanol is hygroscopic is will suck in the moisture even if tightly sealed. That is why I only buy it in 20 litre lots.

I use a simialr gadget from JR, again called the matchbox or channel extender, alows you to set end points, neutral, direction etc without tying up another ch or mix on your radio. They are great little gadgets.

Good luck withthe silver!

cheers
Peter

well turns out it was just the fuel in my fule caddy that was crook. I ran the donk on my P51 batch for the super tigre, no nitro, 10% oil and it idled away happily if a little rough, top end was poor too but I expected that.

I then filled up on some I had mixed up a month ago, 18% coolpower, 7% nitro, engine ran like a clock, lovely idle, great transition and top end.

So at least I did not have to toss all my fuel, just about 1.5 liters.

About to ordder some small air cylinders and a UP3 valve from Darryl at Sierra, think I need the 1" cylinders but will have to find my drawing to double check.

Will do a bit of work on the wing tonight so I can prime that on Sat as well. Will also get the control surfaces all done.

Home stretch in sight

I mate HeHe

Fuel thing works for me, the only glow engine I have now is a ,15 OS/LA in gnat combat thing and my Saito 150 in the cub and I am running 10% coolpower in both and they are happy.

Well got a chnl extender from my LHS and it would not do what I wanted, so t/t horizon and found out I had the wrong unit, so checked back with LHS they will swap out trrns out the young man at the counter did not know the differance, and I sure did not have a clue. I will say that after learning how it worked I was able to get with in a 1/8 of a deg on flap deflection at full flaps, but I lost the mid point. will get correct unit and start over, but it should go a lot quicker this time, so mabe get the corsair back in the air next week

When I called Horizon they told me they were vary bussy, took my # and said I would recive a call back from a tech with in 1 hr, 35min got the call, so customer service at Horizon is tops in my book

Great day hear out flying the Cub but you can only do so much with a cub, T/G's with the articulite ( spelling) gear are great fun.

Sweatpea & Canuck,

Thanks for the glassing & finishing tips. I am not sure which one I am going to use yet. I plan on doing some testing and see which one works for me.

I finally have my building table cleared off from other projects and plan to begin working on my P-47 this weekend. I have my scheme, engine, aircraft version ect all picked out. I'm looking forward to the build- although 6 months from now I'll bet my enthusasim will have dimenished a bit.....

Thanks again for the advice!

Bob,

still have quite afew glow motors, stacks of em in fact but then again I never get rid of anything, real bower bird is me.

Well I use a lot of those ch extenders and swear by them, though when I set up the split elevators on the Se Fury I forgot to roate it past 9 to 0 to save the settings! No dramas only took a few mins to fix it up again.

Weather here today is rubbish, overcast and drizzling, bit chilly - well if you can call 22C chilly

hope the weather is nice over the weekend as I have lots of spraying to do.

cheers
Peter
