I had test flight 1 and 2 yesterday on my TFGS Razorback. I got to say I was quite nervous working on and off on this plane for about 4 years and finally coming to this day. I had the first flight without the cowlon because of I was still fine tuning the engine and wasnt sure how it was going to run with the cowl on. Did a couple of taxis and added more throw to the tailwheel servo. Finally decided I was going to go and sure enough she went. When I opened the throttle to about 3 quarters she jumped off the ground and shot for the sky. I did not give any up elevator yet. So by then I was, the term in the US we use sh###ing a brick. I got to say I was lucky to have a friend there to calm me down. So we fed in a lot of down trim and a little right ail. So she settled down which calmed me down and I did a few laps and then began a couple of approaches. Got one I liked and brought her in with a little speed and no flaps. She planted her front gear and never bounced, she rolled beautifully on the front gear till she slowed enough for the tail to drop and the tailgear to make contact with the ground. So we adjusted the control rods on the elevators and gave it more down trim and put the cowl on. On the second flight she took for the sky again but not as aggressive and only had to add about 4 clicks of down trim. She flew pretty nice and I decided to bring in the gear and she flew even nicer. I flew a little longer on this flight. I dropped the gear on the out leg and then brought her in for the approach. She came in with a little speed,no flaps, let the front gear plant, I then let go of the elevator stick, she rolled on the front gear for awhile still flying the tail, just like the first flight no bounce. I got to say I really love the way this plane lands. I think I am going to add a bit more weight to the nose for I was flying it abit tailheavy than the recommended cg of 5.25. I am really happy that the first flight is over with.

Ya, post some pics
Painted the black on the invasion stripes, turned out pretty good. Just the underside grey to go, and she will be as good as new.

I hope you have pictures of your razorback. It is what I am building as well.

My wife kids were gone all weekend so I had a chance to do a lot of building on mine. I never built anything this large before. To my surprise it is going together much quicker than I had expected. It is very nice kit. But, ouch, I need to order the gear soon and that is pricy! If the OT at work continues I should be able to order my engine by September (Birelli 60)

nice mate, all you need now are some curtis electric decals for the blades

Got a lot done today, finally got it all primed and have applied some spot filler here and there where a bit of hanger rash had creeped in or spots I missed before.

Close up shot of the raised section around the fillet and dorsal fin.

Peter,
Getting back into building again after a few years. Have you ever used Qld Balsa as a supplier and are they any good. Looking at spending about $300 on balsa.

Cheers.

G'day mate and welcome back to the dark side, feel the force, release your anger . . .

umm nope have never used them so can't advise sorry. We used to get balsa from a bloke at logan who brought it in from PNG, top stuff cheap and you could pick the sheets you wanted based on weight, hardness etc.

I'd ring QLD balsa and have a chat to them to see what they can do for you.

cheers
PEter

Thanks Peter. Have sent e-mails back and forth several times and they sound OK. Just quality is all. Will let you know.

Cheers
