Guys,

Another 'newbie' here. I'm not sure of the etiquette for the site. I just picked up a TF GS P47 kit very cheap (still boxed) and appears complete. I have spent the last (XXX) hours scanning this thread almost from end to end and its clearly an encyclopaedia of building techniques for the model, which is brilliant! As new builders start, should we be adding to this thread or are we obliged to start our own rather than cluttering your 'master class'? I am currently 80% complete on a FLAIR Stearman, although with UK weather it will definitely be next season before its wheels leave terra firma. Itching to start on a warbird and have heard so many good things about the TF model that I couldn't resist the bargain. 'Spend to save' that's what I told the wife. Response was unintelligable but don't think I should be expecting anything else this Xmas (although Robart or Sierra retracts would be nice, dear!......).

Great read. Should be published as definitive work on P47 building.

it's Oz's thread. I've hijacked it and put my build in here.

The knowledge has here has helped me so much!

My vote is to post here and give credit where you can to techniques and when you come up with something new (or at least new to you) post it so someone else can learn.

Just be polite and Ozzie Peter do not have to get a ticket to GB and pay you a visit and burn your models AND drink all your beer!

You just got that wrong – that’s my thread now…

Serious,

Welcome in the club! Keep your eyes open and you not even learn something about the Jug, you learn also some about other airframes. Peter Oz has the tendency to go off and abandon the P-47 project (not against the law in Australia like here in the States) and build and repair other aircrafts. - It is sometimes very entertaining…

Happy landings

bps -> RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!! (10/17/2008 12:29:31 PM)

Nice planes and lots of great information. I will be starting this winter on the Razorback GS TF version. I am thinking about the control rods for rudder and elevator. Have decided to use pull/pull on rudder but am still undecided on the elevator. I do not like all of that metal in the rods going all the way to the elevators from the front of the plane. Is this what everyone is using or has someone tried something different?

Looks like Stan's Fiberglass makes the best FG cowl?

Thanks for the information.[:D]

sweetpea01 -> RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!! (10/18/2008 3:03:39 AM)

Its ok Oz.......I've had to put my fiinishing touches on hold due to work/family/weather. I hope to get back in within a week though.

Mainly all I have left is to paint the markings/control surfaces and do some weathering.

I installed all the electronics installed and working as well as the landing gear.

Peter_OZ -> RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!! (10/18/2008 3:20:50 AM)

goodoh mate
bit more serious this side of the pond but will get through it

bps -> RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!! (10/18/2008 12:40:54 PM)

Any one used an RC Showcase 50cc? Looks like a nice motor, just a bit lighter than the Zenoah 62 but rated higher hp. I am also considering placing the elevator servos in the tail just in front of the tail gear. Thoughts?[:D]

Peter_OZ -> RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!! (10/18/2008 12:53:23 PM)

have not heard of that donk. Id watch tail weight in these birds though, each oz in the rear is up to 6 oz up front of nose weight required

VeeAte -> RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!! (10/18/2008 1:45:15 PM)

RCS are modified SV engines hey?

I saw somewhere that RC Showcase sell ZDZ engines as well maybe?

Hope everything turns out for the best OZ.

Was wondering where you had been. Thought you had scored a holiday on an island off the coast of banana land and had ya hand buried in the esky [:D]

Cant wait for the next vid of the Sea Fury [8D]

ramcfarland -> RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!! (10/18/2008 3:28:00 PM)

Hi The ZDZ-50NG is an excellent power plant choice for the 2.1 Thunderbolt and it is available from Mike and David @ www.rcshowcase.com (The RCS 50 )I do not think would be a match for a G-62 nor the "ZDZ"

RWHorton -> RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!! (10/18/2008 10:29:41 PM)

Take a look @ the 80cc zdz. You'll need the weight most likely anyway. Some one here or on the other scale site has a zdz 50 in the tf gs p-47 and he found he was at full throttle most all the time. He was swithing to the 80.

I am using the 80 in mine.

Peter_OZ -> RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!! (10/18/2008 11:26:49 PM)

thanks Scott, rough time at the moment. She is being a total bi $%3 but that is women for you.

Got the retract oleo for the 51 repaired yesterday, just have to fit it tothe wing and that plane is airworthy again.

Done nothing tothe seafury but need to drag it out and figure out how to make the new tailwheel fork. Gunna be a challenge that one. still undecided about the engine, very nearly ordered the DA-85 the other day but would like to get a couple more flights in with the G62 on it and get more for afeel of the plane. Mate of mine wants to have goodfly of it as awel las he is very experienced with big warbirds. So will wait to see what he thinks.

eugene -> RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!! (10/19/2008 1:55:32 AM)

Miroslav,
Congratulations on an outstanding build of the Jug. ( makes me want to throw rocks at my meager effort) The detailing and engineering are excellent work. I first powered mine with the G-45, and it did everything expected of this model at 23.5#.
I later swapped it out for a G-62, there may have been a difference in performance, but not enough to notice..
As most flyers discover with this TF Jug, average pilots can look like a pro with their landings...I have several GS Warbirds, and the Jug is my favorite...... Thank you for the fine clear photos....

VeeAte -> RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!! (10/19/2008 7:02:53 AM)

Know what ya mean Pete. Just went through a rough time of that myself. Must be the season for it here in Oz.

Edit: Asked the question in a more suitable place.

JEFFHINES73 -> RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!! (10/19/2008 7:19:12 AM)

Hey pete you think 85 deg robarts would work on this kit ? got a buddy with a new pair said I could have them what do you think ?

Peter_OZ -> RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!! (10/19/2008 7:32:54 AM)

yup 85 degree 622 units should work fine

P51 retract repair is completed, wing is back in the trailer waiting for next sunday

Pulled the Sea Fury fuz out and put it on the bench to try and figure out what to do with the tail wheel unit. As you can see the fork is made of very light material so no wonder it was buckling. Also note that the shaft is also bent. So need to do some thinking about how to make a new one.

Note this is not on a .60 sized model but on a 90" wingspan Seafury weighing 42lbs

JEFFHINES73 -> RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!! (10/19/2008 8:12:55 AM)

thanks for the info peter just saved myself some cash

Oh anyone know any book that have tuskeegee airmen plane photos of there P47 ?

thanks again

jeff

Peter_OZ -> RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!! (10/19/2008 8:42:07 AM)

bps -> RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!! (10/19/2008 1:14:34 PM)
